Hi,
I am trying to keep my 8L 2002 S3 which I purchased in Jan 2019 as a future classic as original as can be. The calipers are looking tired and in need of refurbishing. I am considering painting these and wonder if i should paint these red or will this affect the value? Some advice please.

Personally I think red calipers won’t necessarily detract from the value of the car as it’s not a huge job to change them however, unless they’re brembo calipers I wouldn’t do them red.

Just my opinion though.

I’ve done mine silver so they look new.

I think you'd be better off parking it up in a heated shed and leaving it alone if you are wanting it to be an futureall original future classic. Then go and buy another one that you can actually enjoy.

I might be mad, but I don't think modifications would hurt the value of a car as long as they are well done and good quality. Let's take a look at classic cars these days. Take the Ford Escort for example. Massively modified and still a classic. Or take a mini for example. Another car that gets modified a lot, even if it's only tiny modifications in some cases. An S3 is like that. I don't think a good set of coilovers, or upgraded brakes or anything like that is going to hurt the value of an S3 in the future. It's not like it's a Ferrari 250 GTO.

If I was you, I wouldn't be worrying about small things like this when it comes to an S3. If you still do, then it's time to park it up in car bubble and buy another one that you won't have to worry about so much. I know I couldn't personally own a car that has me worrying about whether I should paint the brake calipers of or not.

OEM+ is what you should shoot for.... tasteful modifications that bring the car up to date. Thankfully these cars look beautiful on the outside, no rubbish side skirts, big spoilers, etc needed.... (unless race car of course)
