I have just placed an order for another new Audi. This time it will be a Q3-40 TDI-190 Sport s-tronic quattro.

At the moment my wife has a Polo and I have the A3 but I have problems with my legs and ankles which is making it increasingly difficult to swap my foot between the throttle and the brake. Because of this problem I think I am going have to give up driving all together. I'm not keen on the idea of hand controls after over 50 years of normal driving. Fortunately my wife is a good driver and is quite happy to take over all the driving. She is happy driving the A3 but boot space is going to be a problem as I have to use a mobility scooter which does not leave a lot of space for shopping or luggage etc. Taking the scooter out each time she needs to do the shopping would be a pain so we are trading-in both cars and getting the Q3. She has had test drives in various Q3 models and was quite happy driving them and I found it very comfortable from the passenger seat. When folded my scooter will fit in the boot area from front to back leaving over half of the area for other items. At least it would be possible for me to operating the touch screen navigation. The Q3 is due for delivery in August 2019. Having had 10 A3s to date I shall be sorry to leave the A3 club but hopefully we will both enjoy the new Q3 and it will be Silver and have my number plate. My wife has said she would be quite happy to drive to Germany providing I'm there to give the route instructions so we won't have to give our holidays in the Mosel just yet.

I'm sure you will enjoy the Q3 as much as the multiple A3's you have had. I wouldn't discount the hand controls though as sometimes it's nice to go for a spin on your own. Good luck buddy.

I am sure you will love the Q3 - I had one prior to my S3 and it was a lovely car , nice being that little bit higher up. Could you drive the car using left foot on the brake and right for the accelerator - means you wouldn't need to move your feet about. Might be something to try on a quiet and deserted bit of road.

Sorry to hear your health issues will affect your ability to drive Dave, as I know how much you enjoy your trips abroad. Hopefully you'll get some in the new car and please post a review and pictures in the appropriate thread if you can, I would be interested in reading...

That actually makes me feel quite sad reading that as we all take our licenses for granted. At least your not losing your mobility completely and you have a shiny new car to get around in.
We've recently changed to an SQ5 due to disability issues and I honestly don't think I could go back to a normal car as the SUV is so much easier to get in and out, even driving around it's more relaxed with the higher seating position (and I'm not the one thats disabled!)
All the best with your next 10 Q3's lol

I’ve lived in 5 different decades :thumbs up:
Use to keep cars for years. Longest I had a car was 13 years.
I had to think about that for a moment.....it makes you seem older than you actually are. :D
I've lived in 6 different decades......but am only in my 50's. :innocent:
I've owned a total of 10 cars up till this point, but 6 of them have been in the past 7 years.
Longest I've kept a car was 9 years.

Wow. I don’t think I have even owned 10 cars in my life

Well I owned four Audi cars before the A3s together with four Golf GTIs and a Golf VR6 not counting the six cars I had before coming to VW/Audi.

In the Audi cars I have driven 493,101 miles. I did not keep detailed records until I purchase my first Audi, an 80 Sport, in May 1985.

As I've said in a earlier post after many years driving an A3 I am purchasing a new Q3.
I am still trying to decide what method to use purchase the Q3 - PCP or Cash. Several of the recent A3 have been purchased using a PCP but I now been left a large sum of money by my mother. (£150,000). I am 71, and my wife, also 71, both have a good pensions and own our house outright. The current rate for a Q3 on PCP is 6.1% were as the best savings rate I can get is around 2.5%. So taking cash from the bank to purchase the Q3 would seem like a better idea. Can anyone see any problems with this way of purchasing the Q3.

PCP or HP give an extra level of security when things goes wrong. If Audi warranty isn’t wanting to deal with you then you have the finance company on your side. Cost of this is the high interest.

Cash is good as you will own the asset out right and do what you want with it but your only security is just Audi warranty.
If paying cash take the pcp first if there is any incentives like deposit contribution or free servicing then pay it all off within 14 days that way you get the goodies without forking out on interest.

Other option is cheap loans or release equity from property as mortgage rates can be as low as 1.xx%. Much cheaper than pcp/Hp and loans.

Hope this helps. I’m sure others will chip in with more info.

I’m not sure how much security a lender would give. You borrow the money and are in debt to them.
If you have a problem with the car, what would the lender do. And if you withhold payment that will only negatively affect your credit rating.

You don’t own the car till final payment so it’s in the interest of the lender that the car isn’t a pile of cr4p as they might need to repossess it if you don’t pay or you can voluntarily terminate once you have hit the 50% mark.
The roles change a bit as well as it’s the finance company who you have a contract with and they are supplying goods to you not the dealer(some are useless) so they have a contractual obligation with you.
The financial ombudsman or fca is heavily regulated and monitored also mandatory unlike the motors ombudsman which is voluntary so when issues arise there’s better channels for help.
In my experience(dud new car) I couldn’t get anywhere with Audi UK so went to Audi finance and they got off their a55 and eventually they pushed Audi UK and I got a result.

All I can say is.....in your financial position and stage of life I wouldn't have to think twice about it - cash all the way! :)

I agree on the taking PCP and paying off within 15 days of there is a deposit contribution and by the looks of Audi website, that is sitting at £1400

In your position Dave, cash all the way....but, as others have said, if Audi are offering any discount for taking a PCP deal, then take the PCP and pay it off in full within 14 days.

Congratulations on the purchase of the new Q3, and looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it when it arrives in August.

Agree with this entirely.
Take the finance package to get the £1400 contribution and then pay it off straight away :icon thumright:

£1400 isn’t bad as Audi generally give very little in the suv unlike their other cars. I remember getting £6500 deposit contribution on an a6 a few years back but when I looked at a similar price q5 it was only £500 or £1000.

It does obviously depend what they are trying to push. Currently £2,200.00 on Q5, probably down to trying to flog a few more before Face Lift at some point.

I got the same £6,5k+ on a A6 a few years back. I see current "new" A6 is £5k contribution!

Use CARWOW or CARNET to get the best price on a pcp deal. I saw a £4.5/5K discount on my A3 35tfsi Sport. Take the price to your local dealer and see if they will match/beat it.
Order the car and get a settlement fee to clear pcp immediately you collect the vehicle, you don't have to wait 14 days. In fact you start racking up interest the day you sign you the paperwork and not the day you collect the car. I collected on a Friday and cleared the pcp on the Monday. I still had 14 day interest to pay. Once you make the payment it takes a couple of weeks to get the termination of agreement confirmation through.

Consumer finance laws gives you 14 days grace period to cancel if you change your mind. You shouldn’t be charged interest or anything in that period. That’s included if you just handed the car back and say not for me.

You have 14 days grace to cancel a contract and back out of it without loss. If paying off a pcp deal you are not cancelling it, you are choosing to bring it to an early closure/termination. In law the two are different.

Must be Audi/vw finance being tight.
I Know others that’s not been charged doing this.
To be fair 14 days interest will be buttons compared the £1400 benefit anyway. On a £30k balance it’s roughly a fiver a day.

Just to add....the interest is calculated at the start of the agreement, the payments are set and commence one month after you take delivery of the vehicle.
You will get a rebate of interest for early settlement, but there will always be some interest to pay regardless of how soon you settle the agreement.

@h5djr - Sorry to hear about your health issues Dave

Looking foreword to seeing pic's of your new Q3 my friend

I don’t quite understand why you would pay any interest for any period before you take delivery of the car.
Where is the money during that period - if it’s not in your bank? I paid cash for my car when I went to collect it.

If you take the Audi finance you get a deposit contribution essentially a discount. With the q3 it’s £1400. A weeks interest is maybe £50 so you will still be £1350 better off than paying with cash.

A no brainier if you get £1400 deposit contribution, which you only get if you take PCP, so take it then settle next day if you like (within 14).

I think you are missing my point. You can pay for a car in two ways - cash or loan. In either case the dealer gets the money when you get the car. So if you pay any interest before that day you should have access to the cash.
I understand that if you paid off the loan in 14 days you would have 14 days of interest to pay. But in the example given above, if you pay off immediately you should have no interest to pay. Though I suppose there may be setup charges or whatever.

Ahh now I get what you said.
So pay it off immediately so in my example you get the full £1400 benefit rather than losing £50 in interest.
There’s probably a delay of some sort between signing documents till systems are updated.
Maybe it courtesy thing but most folk I know who’s done this normally waits a few days at least.
