What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

Its an audi Chris, nothing is ever that straight forward, in an ideal world that would be a great plan but with these car it's best to do your homework first then go from there, saves a lot of hassle in the long run and I've found out the hard way a fair few times..

At the end of the day Chris it all down to you really and the look you desire.
You could just lob on other size spacers and see what happens , you maybe lucky and it all works out , but then again it may not hence why it pays to do the prep first to get the look you want, nothing worse than a job going tits up and then the whole job gets messy and you loose interest in it.

good luck Chris.

Yes i get what you saying, ive done a few retrofits, and like you say, nothing is ever straight forward.I will get it done, and its good to get all the possible pitfalls before trying.think i might wait to see if some used ones come up for sale, i can try a few option then?
Thanks rob

Hi i am running 18" 8j running 10mm on front and 15mm spacers on rear. FWD using H&R spacers fit ok, tried a different version first and wouldn't sit flush against hub. i will try post pictures later on

Maybe H&R would be a safer bet for me then,I might get a pair of 10mm,an try fit them front and back,if the ok I can order second pair then, thanks for that

Let me know how you get on chris, the sets I have now are H&R and still didn't fit flush on my quattro.
On my quattro the spigot length on the hub is the same front and back so if they don't sit flush on the rears , they wont sit flush on the fronts.
just a heads up really.

Found my S3 injectors and gasket/seal kits. Mrs had wrapped them in a blanket and put them in the loft in one of my daughters old toy cots!

Working away for the next couple of weeks so hopefully get around to fittings these when I'm back. As well as a runner flap delete kit.

12mm is worth a go chris as they will sit ok over the stub's, not sure what the fronts would look like though, maybe just bite the bullet and get 12's and see how it pan's out.

To be fair, lesser marques are just as bad *cough*GM*cough* but I really like your initiative for setting the spacer gap - 10/10!

A pair of new front shoes turned up this morning for my bus, the old ones were entering 6 points on your licence territory.

I opted to stay with Michilin Pilot sports 4 as they seem to be the best "bang for your buck all rounder" tyre of the top brands. I also quite like the consistant wear and longevity that Pilots offer and for £216 delivered, i think reasonably priced too.

Took advantage of the good weather and started to dismantle bits from the old girl, in order to swap the to new bus..
BTW does anyone know how to get to the two small torx bolts in the steering wheel column? I just couldn't find anything to get in there (last pic)

I think they’re great tyres, I had them on my last RS Clio 200 plenty of grip, feel and they wore really well. I’m gutted I didn’t go for them all round when I had to change mine - the Goodyear eagles I went for have not been brilliant... ok, but not great. I think I preferred the Dunlop’s sport maxx I had.

To be honest it was a toss up between the Pilots, Eagles, P zeros and Bridgestones, the pricing was similar between the lot but the Michelins just proved a better combination of fuel economy rating, noise rating and wet weather grip.

I removed mine to fit cruise control. I think i used a torx driver instead of a screwdriver with torx bit attached, if that makes sense?

It’s an extremely small torx screw in there. I purchased one specific for that years ago but if you don’t have one then you may need to use a long and very skinny flat head screwdriver and back it out carefully.

Decided after a lot of looking and thinking to go back to my 19" inovits, nothing wrong with the Lemans and they are great alloys but the old bus seems to have become a tad plain looking again , just another A4 really , with the inovits it looked a bit fresher dare I say modern.
So getting the inovits refurbed in black chrome and selling the Lemans, its like they say really , nothing ventured nothing gained .

Well having initially thought changing the vacuum unit or w/e it is for the intake manifold flaps had cured most of my lumpy idle/hesitation around 2k rpm and by the smell of it, overfuelling, its back to how it was again....and I'm fed up lol.

Anyone ever managed to cure this without replacing hundreds of parts? The exhaust fumes stink of overfuelling at idle and its a little smoking apparently and it can be quite juddery when idling. The turbo is lagging until 2.5k rpm as well.

I've cleaned the EGR, replaced the vacuum unit, cleaned the intake manifold flaps. I don't want to go down the route of replacing the MAF, injectors, EGR etc etc in hope one will fix otherwise it will quickly become uneconomical to fix as the car is only worth around 3500 anyway.

Any suggestions/help as always will be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: oh yeah for what its worth, I'm sure its worse since having the cambelt changed. I don't think its a timing issue though as it can be intermitent. I also had the oil pump balance shaft changed around the same time before that issue cropped up. I've also had the classic glow plug light flashing once (which put the car into limp mode and caused a boost error on VCDS) and a couple times its flashed up on the dash saying one of the brake lights is out, then clears again

Today, I looked at why my new rear wiper motor had stopped working. Removed the rear trim panel and the flamin' wiring connector had fallen off!
Pushed it on, no real 'click' as you might expect, but unless I gave a hefty tug, it seemed to have mated properly so left hatch open and it worked fine. Closed the hatch and could hear the connector fall off. Once refitted, stuck a thin cable tie around the motor so it tightened around the connector. All well.

Oh, fitted these trims today and have to say that for someone who can't spray WD40 let alone paint, I'm well pleased. I might remove them and polish with G3 & G10 once the rest of the trims are done.

I have now removed the gear lever surround and front ashtray and already have them prepped and primed. How many parts to the ashtray???

Big shout out to TOTAL TECHNIK for their brilliant Youtube 'How To' videos such as this -

Picked the car up from the garage yesterday. New driveshafts in front. Feels good again now. No more vibration at higher speeds and thinking the wheel was about to drop off when you parallel park ha. Had a morning off today so thought I’d take the opportunity to fit the rs4 grill with my trusty helper!

Replaced second set of front lower arms and driveshaft at the weekend. Had it aligned today so my steering wheel is straight again. New shafts have completely eliminated the vibration I was getting with the J&R rubbish.

Started to wash the old bus then it peed down so gave the rs steering wheel a clean instead....growing on me more daily now , allmost worth the cost.:whistle2:

My auto dimming mirror arrived the other day, so cracked on with the autolights/wipers, autodim mirror and CH/LH retrofit.

CH/LH lights work a treat but no life in the dimming mirror or autolights yet...

Its that old one again , personal choice, if we all liked the same the world would be a very plain and boring place.

So whilst waiting for my new Airbag to arrive (or even order actually) a friend said he had a set of the silver trimmed MFSW controls. So I thought a simple swap and they would give some contrast.

Had to strip them down and swap all the internals from one set to the next as the silver trimmed ones didn’t have the plugs for the paddles.

All done and gives a nice OEM+ look to it
