Well, it's that time of year agian. Where should I be looking for insurance for my RS3 Saloon? I went with hastings last year, they gave me a good quote, but it has gone from £400 to £550. Comparison sites are coming up with the same at about £550.

I know there are a few insurance threads knocking about, but as insurance prices are very volatile, I thought it might be good to get some more up to date advice.

Insurance is a joke...I’ve had quotes from 450 yet Esure, who I’m with now, have emailed me a quote at 688 lol, up significantly...let me think about that...ehhhhh naw. Think comparison sites are the way to go, doesn’t stop me calling them up there after to see if there’s anything else they can offer, don’t ask don’t get. Never stuck with the same insurer year on year, always cheaper to go elsewhere.

Try Admiral via CompareTheMarket mate. I was 21 with 3 years NCD when I started my policy and only paid ~£1600 which is very cheap given my age and the car. You can also try adding named drives to your policy, that took mine down by £400 for me (I'll never understand how insurance companies work out their prices...)

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/ This was also handy for playing about with my job title and brought it down by another £200 or so.

1st time ever this year was cheaper to stay with same insurer...try Liverpool Victoria they were the cheapest but all depends on age where you live etc....

Tried a quote from Esure and they said they couldn't quote me lol

I'm 39, had my licence 20 years and have 19y NCD.

Ridiculous, I’m with esure and have just renewed for another year as the cost had reduced. I’m 34, with suspension modification declared.

I was with esure last year, renewal this year was nearly £200 more despite no changes to the policy.

They knew price was the reason as soon as I phoned up to cancel the renewal but weren’t interested in matching my comparison site deal.

It’s an odd industry.

I reckon there's really only one insurer at the end of the line.

I bet you aren’t far off it mate... a handful of underwrites at most I’d say

I’m with Aib with all mods and future mods declared eg stage 2 plus wheels £1300 but I had to fit tracker.

Why not try the site sponsors in the insurance section, I got a very good deal from Chris Knott matched lowest comparison site with much better cover

For me Adrian Flux and Chris Knott were no where near competitive.

In fact almost double current policy price and also added a £2.5k excess.

Both wouldn’t insure me because I was under 30 :seenoevil:

Go to all 3 comparisons sites and then Direct Line also!

A study was done by MSE, and apparently the date you do you renewal can affect it by as much as £400 on average! Because statistically those who leave it to the last minute are more likely to crash, what a load of tosh! But it is true,

The optimum time to get a quote is 21 days from renewal! I was playing around with renewal dates on Confused.com and got it to vary by around £300 simply by changing my start date!

Good luck!.

How on earth are you paying less than me with same NCD and I'm 26. ****** hell.

The RS3 is the most expensive car I’ve owned insurance wise... to me it just seems a total lottery what quotes you get back :wtf:

Well this time around being 21, removing my parents took £900 off of my premium... madness. Absolute madness! So just me on there now

Can't really help as my renewal with Hastings was my best offer.
It had gone up by 50% though..... to £240!

Not an RS3 here but having just renewed my car insurance tonight I’d recommend ringing up your existing insurance company and getting a new quote as if you’re a brand new customer (if you’ve had a bad renewal price).

No idea how but I got my S3 insurance for £480 instead of the renewal I was given of £987. (23, 5 years ncb). Previously rang quoting the renewal letter and they wouldn’t budge at all.

Insured last night on multi car via Admiral. 8 years no claims, 33 and £475, not bad. Rang my current insurer and they couldn’t budge from the £688.

My Post code must be bad lol
Admiral quoted me £1800
37 and full no claims

Direct Line cheapest online quote for me at £1180
I am waiting on my renewal quote from Sky insurance tho,

That sounds very high. Although I paid c.£350 per year for my PFL RS3 in 2016. Now I'm paying £800+ for the TT and I have full NCD similar to yourself.

Postcode makes a huge difference... I moved house less than 2 miles away and it went up £200... ridiculous!

I’m with Elephant so is Admiral, on a 3-car Multi Car policy mine is £1500, well happy with that.. 21 with 4 years NCB.

If you go through as a new quote with them, it’s £4500!!!

I've just dug this thread out as I got got a shock yesterday when my re-newal came through.

Last year it was a £tenner cheaper than the year before at £390
This year it has shot up to £510

I checked the online comparisons and sure enough it was competive
So it looks like premiums have gone up.

Definitely shot up. My renewal went up to nearly £2000 when I paid £1400 last year. After speaking to Admiral, I managed to half it and get it down to £1000 by adjusting the value of the vehicle according to used examples with similar mileage rather than the list price I set when I first insured with them. Might be something you could play with?

Some pretty big jumps then aren't they.
I was also surprised on the comparison site that a few 'big names' were not even listed, which suggests they are staying clear of these type of cars.

Can't blame them though can you @Snake Pliskin ?

It's getting like the late 80's/early 90's Cosworth situation all over again, where no insurer would touch them.......

Car theft these days is very low on most police forces priorities......:sadlike:

It is certainly looking that way mate & not good news is it.

Just checked mine on Moneysupermarket (due for renewal end Aug) and its actually gone down to 495 from 570, and that is showing as with my current provider 1st Central.

Pleasantly surprised.
Howevet it will need a Service, Tax and potentially new front Tyres !!!!

That's interesting.
I think they did come up the cheapest when I did the compare the market thing last night but I hadn't heard of them so didn't consider them.

Just done mine stage2 plus wheels and springs 5K miles 9+ year no claims protected £950

I am somewhat miffed as I did a quote for £740 but because I didn’t realise that a 3 year old claim was my fault (which it wasn’t) that company wouldn’t accept me. So I ended up having to pay £860 instead from the next insurance company - which I made sure I had the correct information for.

Meanwhile Hastings direct quoted me £2200 - lol - Admiral my original insurer quotes £1500.

Just out of curiosity, I’ve put a quote through on Compare The Market and they are way cheaper than when I renewed a few months back... £250-£300 cheaper with some companies :flushed:

Multi car for me with Admiral, renewed yesterday, they wanted 950 odd for me and the wife who drives a Q3...after mentioning I was shopping around they came with a revised total cost of 770 pretty much. Couldn’t pay quick enough. Works out I’m paying 500, not bad given comparison sites were over 600. Crazy how they can reduce costs by as much as they have.
