so I’m after an A6 Avant. I’d love a black edition one but the budget can only stretch to one with higher miles. However can get a low milage SE. Is there any styling mods (new front and rear bumber) etc that you can get to make the SE look better like an S-line? What can be done to the SE to help it look better. Or is it just better to get a black edition s line? Looking at 2012-2013 models.

How much is the price difference between an Se and S line? Sline has different bumpers, xenons (se has halogens unless specced), adjustable supportive seats, sports suspension and some other bits i cant think of. Get the s line if you can

What do you class as high and low mileage? I went for slightly high with a good history for spec, with an se you get 4 arm steering wheel instead of the really nice sline one and the seats are a lot less sporty, I think the suspension is lower on the sline too and I’m not sure the head lamps are the same never mind the bumpers, so it depends what compromises you’re willing to make.
My compromises where higher mileage (117k), chrome outside which I’ve had wrapped and the colour because I wanted a grey one haha

The SE has done 22,000 miles and one year newer. The S line black edition has done 60,000 miles and costs £2,000 more. Just thinking if I can spend £1,000 on the SE. New alloys. Tinted windows. And change the front bumper if possible? But I don’t know what front bumper you can put on an SE? If I buy an S line bumper is it straight swop?

60k is nothing imo, if it has full s/h too. Most sline alloys are 20” you won’t see any change from a grand for them with new tyres, and front bumper and lights will probably be the same then the interior isn’t as nice.

Think your right. Defiantly S-line then. Can I ask what the difference is between an S line and the black edition? As the price difference is again £2,350. And the S line has done 12,000 miles less?

I bought my BITDI with 60K and its mint.

I think you would need to spend more than 2k on an SE to make it look as good as a black edition.

It was actually your thread that made me think I could make an SE look good haha. De badge it. Change the grill. Tint the windows. Get new alloys. Have the chrome wrapped in black etc. Small number plates. I basically want your car haha

The dash inserts are piano black on black editions the sline are usually like a brushed alloy, the black editions have black headliner not sure if normal sline do they might do. Is there any other spec difference? Bose, tech pack, power tailgate etc

S-Line and Black Edition will have Xenon headlights as standard whilst SE (of that age) only had Halogen as standard. S-Line got sports suspension (20mm lower), 18" Alloys, Black Headling, Sports seat with adjustable lumber support usually in Valcona Leather (better grade than Mialbo on SE) though some will have Leather and Alcantara. 12/13 cars unlikely to have electric tailgate that was made standard for MY14. Black Edition added 20" Alloys, Black trim to replace chrome outside, Piano Black interior trim, Bose sound and privacy glass

Lol thanks mate. I do love my car.

Not saying you can't make an se look much better than standard, but if you want the bumpers and lights etc then it's big money retrofits.

Changing the wheels next on mine and lowering a little if wifey agrees.

Good luck with which ever route you go down

What’s going to bother you more? id rather have a higher mileage car, but love it every time you go to get in it. Or feel a bit disappointed every time you pass a Black Edition and wish you’d gone for one of them. Personally I’d go slightly higher mileage or wait & save a little more to get the car you really want. I reckon the BE will hold its value better when you come to sell it anyway.

Yes decided to go for an S line or black edition. Just got to find one now...
Ideal colour is grey.
But then someone is selling a 2014 white S line ultra with black edition styling with only 28,000 on the clock for £15,000. Seems cheap to me with that milage. Just wish it was grey.

That is cheap. My 2014 avant BE 2.0 manual was £16k with 51k on it

That is quite cheap mines a 12 plate with 115k and I didn’t get much change off 15

You know what they say, if it’s too good to be true.....

No harm in enquiring about it I guess, if it’s a reputable dealership that can be trusted. Let us know how you get on with your search.

Good luck mate.

Still on the look and have narrowed it down to the following.
2014 white S Line 2.0 ultra Manual black edition styling, 28,000 miles £15,000
2012 black S line 3.0tdi manual 48,000 miles £12,500
2013 grey S line manual 36,000 miles £14,000
2012 white s line 2.0tdi manual 53,000 miles £11,000
2014 grey s line black edition manual 2.0 tdi 58,000 miles £14,200

Just don’t know weather to go for the 3.0tdi as better engine. Or get the white S line with 28,000 mile cause it should last me longer with so little miles. Or get the other white one for £11,000 as it’s cheap. However the grey black edition is my fav colour and to look at but for an extra £800 I can get the one in white that’s done 30,000 miles less!
Can’t decide haha.

Depends on what your willing to pay to run, I love the 3.0 I got but if you would keep the 3.0 standard a 2.0 mapped will feel near enough the same power just cheaper tax and fuel, I’d say it depends on the spec they have too, I spend hours looking when I’m buying so many variables haha

And because my a4 avant was Quattro I 100% wanted another one so they narrowed it down for me,
Can you rest drive the closest 2.0 and 3.0 see what you think

I've driven the 2.0tdi in a Seat Leon before and i used to have an older one (150bhp) and it was good to drive. I have the 2.0tfsi now remapped, so im not worried that the 2.0tdi with a remap will feel under powered.
Ive never actually driven the 3.0tdi, just heard there bomb proof. However one of the reasons i am changing is for fuel economy and costs. So i think it would be silly for me to go for 3.0tdi as it would cost more to tax, service, run etc.
So think ive ruled that one out.
Still cant decide on which 2.0tdi. All similar spec to be fair. The grey one is my favourit, just wish it had done 20,000miles less... The white one has 2 exhausts one left and one right and all the others have twin exhaust on the left hand side. Was this an extra, or face lift change?

My 2.0tdi a4 was mapped to 210 and it felt alright nothing exciting because of the grip Quattro have you, I know diesel is getting pricey but I’ve seen a few mapped 3.0 strips left 40odd mpg that’s enough for me to have 300hp too, the tax for my 3.0 was £50 cheaper than my 2.0 a4 I think it just depends what your used to paying.
As far as I knew all 2.0 tdi are a single twin on one side and 3.0 are a pair of singles one each side, I think face lift ones have weird square exhausts so they all have one each side I think

The ultra engined 2.0 cars end of 2014 are one exhaust either side. Earlier cars are 2 on one side. Only reason I had the 2.0 is I hate driving auto’s and the 3.0 only came in auto

Nice problem to have, spoilt for choice. As mentioned above, I’d check what packs they all have. I think the Tech Pack, Lighting Pack and Reversing Pack are all really nice to have and will make the car that bit more special when you’re in it.

If you go 2.0 you’ll always crave more power and the refined V6. There’s quite a difference in performance but that’s for you to decide. If budget allows try and find a 3.0.

For me, tech is the minimum. Other desirables are lighting and parking pack, heated seats, electric/memory seats and folding mirrors.

I was surprised to find so many poverty spec examples.

Most notable was a Bitdi with pan roof, sports diff, parking pack but no tech!

It's not surprising, when you buy these car new they deprecate fast and the options added to the car are just about worthless come resale, it just makes then easy to sell. There will also be a fair amount of lease and fleet cars which again will be basic specification.

when I ordered my car I had the choice of a big engine & basic specification or 2.0 quattro and lots of spec/toys, so I went for the 2.0, sure they don't have the power but a lot cheaper to maintain and when things go wrong your wallet does not take a beating

Yep very similar to my specification, but I wanted quattro rather than the "black" feature as I was not interested in 20" wheels and tinted windows.

colour is nice but would hate to keep them seats clean, that car is about 4 years old and the driver seat on the base and bolster is looking a bit grim. It's why I chose to have the Super sport seats in black.

I do like that spec. Seen one around here like that. The combo of RS front bumper/colour/wheels and facelift looks amazing. As you say not so sure about the seats though. I have quite a dirty job so they wouldn’t stay that colour for long lol

It's a Black Edition so just an S-line front bumper but it looks so effective because it's not black or grey.

Only 30k miles and seats starting to show signs, but the bolsters don't help - you can't simply glide in and out. I had an S6 5.2 V10 for 3 years with the same seats - loved it, but caught the bolsters many times getting in and out in a hurry.

Mine are starting to get a few creases, and I've only got 18K on the clock, and the car is just over 2.5 years old, so I'm going to have to start looking after them a bit more, find better cleaning & conditioning products as a replacement base cover £637 and the back cover is £698 for super sport seats, and around £150 less for standard sline seats.

The facelift and pre facelift S-line front bumpers must be different then

Yes Audi change the front and rear bumpers along with the lights
