Forgive my ignorance here but at what level are you supposed to change brake pads? These are my rears, they look pretty low. Fronts still look good even after 1.5 years of pretty spirited driving!

When the warning lights come on the dash is the simple answer.
Last 3 Audi’s I’ve had needed rear pads before the front of that helps. Thinks it’s either softer compounds or less of materials.

Okay well I've had no warning light so that's good. Don't really want to always rely on that though! Looking at these rears they seem low but maybe someone with more mechanical knowledge can advise.

The back one can be tricky to judge due to the view unless you take the wheel off. I did mines last year as they looked quite low and were making some noise, but when I had them out they were more or less new. I replaced them anyway with Brembos while I was there as the OEM ones seem to be very noisy due to the amount of brake dust they produce.

You won’t get a warning a warning for the rear pads, just the fronts have the sensor.

The rear discs has a bit of a lip anyway on the inner and outer edge. I would wait and change discs and pads next service if I were you.

Are you sure about that?
My last few Audi’s had warning sensors on the rear. I’m sure my mk4 golf had rear brake sensors.

Pretty sure mate though I did mines last year, but I’ve just put my reg in ECP to doublecheck and it doesn’t give me the option to buy a sensor for the rear just the front.

When I changed my discs and pads all round there was no sensor on the rears but definitely on the fronts but I just soldered the wires together as I used aftermarket ones as replacements. I would certainly look at changing them very soon pal.

Oh well learn something new everyday.
It’s probably another cost cutting exercise as the sensor is just 2 wires essentially.

The general rule of thumb is that it is a good idea to change brake pads when the friction material reaches the stage where it is a similar thickness to the steel backing plate. Pads rarely wear exactly evenly, so you should base this on the thinnest pad. This is roughly about 3mm. The friction material on a new pad is about 11mm. Those discs don't look great - the rusty section at the top is far too wide - I've seen this on "tired" rear discs on several A3s.

Oh a money making exercise in the hope most people will drive the car until the pads are totally screwed, at which point the discs will also need replacing.

Thanks mate. Will look at changing rear discs and pads!

How much do you reckon I'm looking at for rear discs and pads on an S3?

AUTODOC doing trw discs at under £14 each and pads £22. I’ve said this in other post I’m a big fan of trw stuff. Good quality and good price and main thing is they usually come with fittings and sensors. Their cotec range has less dust than oe pads.
Only downside is autodoc takes around a week for delivery as it comes from Europe somewhere but they are much cheaper than ecp even with the 50% off. Discounts are better on their app than websites.

Edit: forgot to paste the link

Cheers for this, was looking to buy Brembo discs and pads from euro car parts when the next 50% discount code came on but these come in at half that price.

Not a big fan of ecp. Over inflated prices then they have these promotions to make it look good.
A mate in the trade said to me that ecp bought the rights to use the pagid and eicher trade names so anything that’s uses these brand names on ecp are ecp’s own produce cr4p.
