recently got a 2.0 tdi 184 and just noticed that when I’m stationary and rev the engine it limits out at 2500rpm, when driving it’s fine, no codes on vcds.
Is this an issue or normal for this engine, always had petrol before this

Cheers in advance

I’m sure others will confirm but the s3 only revs up to circa 4k when in neutral, not sure if it’s something to do with the launch control.

RS3 the same. Afaik it is to protect the engine from over rev.

How long have you had it? As it’s a diesel I would bet it’s doing a DPF regen, mine idles higher too when doing a regen. Very normal. If you have only just got the car then keep an eye on it, if it’s a regen then you should see the revs go down again once the regen is complete. I’m not sure on the frequency but I think it’s around every 500miles it does a DPF regen, usually it’s done when driving but if your in town then you might hear the fans working and revs higher.

Turn off the traction control.

3800 rpm, well that's what mine does anyway
