About to place an order and debating whether or not I want the tech pack. Does anybody have pictures of the standard main screen (not the virtual cockpit)? Does it differ much in quality or is there just a slight difference in size? I was thinking of speccing the Matrix lights and B&O sound system instead. I’m not keen on the new style virtual cockpit compared to the one in my A3.

Thanks.

Sorry can’t help.

Agreed, only had my car for a couple of days and the tech pack really makes this car stand out for me. Not driven it at night yet, must be even more impressive looking. I also had some reservations on everything being touchscreen, but after a couple of hours driving I've got most of it sussed out and I'm a luddite....

@DaveW That was my initial thought but I thought I could probably live without the virtual cockpit as there’s enough screens going on already (and I don’t really use my virtual cockpit for much at the moment). I just think the Matrix headlights make the look of the car, it looks slightly more aggressive - probably the wrong reason to spec them tbh.

@ascr That’s good to know as I’m also feeling the same way about the touch screens - I feel like they’re more of a distraction as you have to take your eyes off the road. I had an A7 loan car the other week and I didn’t even attempt to adjust the air on whilst driving.

Another question for you both - do your cup holders have the cover or are they exposed?

No they have the cover on the cup holders. That was a concern of mine as a lot of pics/videos show them uncovered, but I think this is a non-UK configuration.
I found the touch screens a distraction at first, but like most things, you get used to them after a while.

Mine have a silver cover

Think the exposed cup holders are for the US where they want the ability to take bigger cups so need to remove the flap hing mechanism

I have the standard mmi and am perfectly happy epithet both in terms of the size and resolution of the centre screen and not having the virtual cockpit. Even with the standard system you can still display the map between the dials like you could on the tech pack with the c7

Thanks for this. Do you happen to have any pictures of it? Would you say the quality is still fairly HD, reversing camera etc?

Hope these help. Audi claims that the screens are full HD even in the standard set up

@elan2s Thanks a lot, much appreciated! That’s definitely helped me decide. The quality looks really good. I suppose the main difference in upgrading to the tech pack is the virtual cockpit and I’m not completely sold on it. I only use my current one to change the radio station, I don’t use the full screen map, etc.

You can change stations, select phone calls etc from standard dash. The only functional things you really lose from not having the tech pack are wireless phone charging, google images in the navigation and an enhanced version of voice commands. Not something worth the cost in my opinion

Yeh I’m not really sure I’d miss all that. I barely use the wireless charger in my A3. I’ll probably place my order on Tuesday but I think I’ve made my mind up thanks to them pictures.

It's down to personal preference in the end, whatever floats your boat. It also makes the vehicle more desirable when it comes to selling on/trading in.
This is my 2nd A6 with a technology pack and I won't consider another vehicle without one

@DaveW I know, I wish I’d just be able to tick every option but I want to try and keep the cost down. It’s only a two year lease so I suppose if I regret not picking certain options, at least I’ll be looking to order a new car after 18 months. I can’t justify spending any more than £450 per month.

It's so easy to get carried away with options and I'm sure you'll be thrilled with your new A6 whatever you choose to do.

Do Audi no longer do PDF brochures? I’m struggling to find the A6 brochure.

You won't be able to access it via myAudi until you get your VIN though.

I spent a few days last week in one without the tech pack. GET THE TECH PACK!

Standard stereo is actually much better than the standard B9 A5 but depends how into.your music you are. The matrix lights are cool but you can only enjoy them half the time. The tech pack or nice stereo you.can benefit from all the time

@Simonwhite2000 Hahaha - just when I thought I’d made up my mind. I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time looking for cars without the tech pack. What was it you didn’t like about the standard set up?

There just isn't any wow factor. I know that's tough to quantify but the VC 10 inch screen and Google 3d maps really do blow you away even after months. I know what your going through my S5 has over 3.5k options and it's a lease! (General rule of leasing dont pick any options!)

I think I’m gonna have to see both set-ups in person. I had an A7 loan car with tech pack and I just wasn’t liking the new style VC compared to the one in my A3. And then I was thinking, I barely use any of the VC features on my A3.

I think my main concern with not having the tech pack on the A6 was the main screen being too small or low quality. Did you find it to be too small in reality? I don’t want it to look odd with the dash being so bold.

I set the VC to nav, minimise the dials and put the MMI onto Google earth and I feel like an Airbus pilot, especially at night!
Seriously though, the standard stereo and standard matrix headlamps are very good as they are. Personally I'd take the tech pack over the HD matrix and B&O options. But like I said earlier, its personal preference. May be worth visiting a couple of Audi dealers and seeing if they have any vehicles with these options so you can experience them at first hand.

It does look a bit odd yes. Remember the E class where you got an 8 inch screen where the 12 inch goes and a big thick plastic border? Like that just not as bad.

@DaveW I think you may have just sold the tech pack to me, haha.

@Simonwhite2000 Hmm yeh I definitely couldn’t deal with it looking odd, especially being the part of the car you’re looking at most of the time.

I’ll probably take a trip to the dealership and decide from there.

Had a demo car with the Tech Pack, and previous car had Virtual Cockpit. I'm not a fan, i much prefer analogue dials. you can still have the Nav in 3D on the non Tech Pack dials and has 3D buildings in built up areas. If you want to upgrade the cabin, go for the multi colour LED ambient lighting, got 30 different colours to choose from its very impressive and finishes off the cabin perfectly

@Haz93 Thanks for your advice. I actually sat in one without tech pack and I really liked it to be honest. I actually won’t be getting the A6 now unfortunately. VWFS won’t give me the finance regardless of me having two previous contracts with them and never missing a payment. I think their processes are awful to be honest - can’t tell me why declined and don’t actually tell you what they’re willing to lend so basically in a position where I’ll have to keep applying before I know what I can borrow. Disappointed to have to go to another brand.
