What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

Managed to get time to give the old bus a wash , looks half tidy for a 13 years old bus , very pleased with the alloys too.
probably it now for exterior mods, and not fully decided on a caliper upgrade at the moment.
Recaro's are brill and the FBSW feels great.

so a couple of pics of my humble old bus, no the best pics but you'll get the idea.

Yes, looks really nice.wheels very nice,my favourite on a b7

5w-40 is so much better Alex, my old bus has used hardly any since I did a oil change a few weeks back, not sure why I went back to 5w-30 last year but whatever the reason it was a mistake..

Also need to order a new oem chrome tailgate rings badge as my current gloss black one is looking very poor now only a few years old and almost matt now.
A Platinum silver one would be great but not sure they are available in that finish.

Get it sprayed in whatever is wanted, left mine off years ago as I've seen too many badges that aren't in the correct position when replaced or are replaced with badges too big or small.

Had two new tyres fitted on the front. Use have Goodyears asymmetric 2 on there before got asymmetric 5 which have just come out. I highly recommend the feel of them seem so much better and seem to have ton load of more grip.

Today I have managed to remove the broken driver side temp sensor arm and motor as the yellow arm was snapped - maybe due to fatigue. I also managed to break a mounting off the motor - so replacement parts ordered, but I'm not really looking forward to refitting them!
After refitting everything, I also managed to have the brake lights on all of the time - even with ignition off - so new switch ordered (I hope that's all it is!) and will have to put some miles on the wife's Sportage until it's all sorted.
Still got AC high pressure switch, headlights bulbs and centre console catch waiting to be fitted.......

Never ending on this car!

brake lights on all the time will be the switch, I had the same a few months back.
I replaced the switch and then had so many errors with EPC, traction control , ABS, etc etc , is was bonkers, just be prepared .

Cheers Rob. I have ordered a new switch and will be on the lookout for some with VCDS in or around York.

Had a fun today fixing slight boost leak ive been meaning to do for a year. But also now found the crank case breather pipe to be completely split. The joys.

So quite a productive weekend....

Took the front end off to replace various parts damaged in the ‘incident’ while I had the bumper off I also took the opportunity to clean out the IC’s my goodness there was all kinds of gunk in there... used a diluted degreaser to clear the IC’s and all various hoses associated - squeaky clean now. Also steam cleaned various parts of the engine bay.

Also did a test fit of the Xenons (one ballast is dodge so I’ve held off permanent fitment until I have new parts)

Annnd then test fit of the new bumper - after a little fettling and a proper paint job I think she’ll start to look pretty nice.

Yes and no... physically swapping over the headlight units yes - but there are some wiring harness’ that need to be purchased to convert the plug types. Also there is a couple of wires that need to be run and connected in the cabin - then I believe they have to be coded in for the self level function.

Well after owning the old bus 3.0tdi Quattro saloon for over 5 yrs now I hope I’m nearly there last few bits done this winter

New downpipe for a bit better flow larger intercooler for better temps front bumper just to lift it and make the old girl look a bit newer and finally rear valance and different exhaust tips (left tow bar on it’s just too handy)
Hopefully a slight tweak and before she goes on dyno will hopefully produce some good figures.
Been mapped by other people and I seemed to stall for ages around 330-340 bhp mark fingers crossed it’s full potential has been unlocked now been a long and stressful road at times but I have enjoyed doing it and just going to enjoy now and run it for a few years.

hopefully i need to start saving the pennies for my 911 for my 40th in a few years
sounds like a great plan.
forget the 911's they have become automotive speculation pieces , bonkers prices now and just not worth it, go for a real gem the 968 sport you get a lot of car for sensible money.

So I put her in the garage yesterday to get the cam chain, auxiliary belt, water pump, major service, brake fluid service, gearbox oil change and have a set of bilstien B12’s put on - in all a fair chunk of money, but as I plan on keeping the girl going for a few years I thought I’d splash out on the investment.

Had a phone call today to say that someone has previously attempted the cam chain and has rounded a bolt that requires the removal of the camshaft and will add around £500 of parts and labour to sort out.... grrrreat... just what I needed to hear after a truly shocking week... sad times.

Allways a shock when a big bill just gets bigger, but worth it in the end.

Yeah it needs to be done so there’s no getting around it. Otherwise you’d just be praying every journey... at least she’ll be fighting fit for the next few years!

Today, I fitted a used driver temp motor - nice to have warm feet again!
I also fitted a new brake light switch - all good.
I do have the airbag light on though, might be because I removed the glove box last week and had to disconnect the passenger airbag airbag?
Now have to get a new clutch switch as the cruise doesn't work anymore, rear wiper has packed in (knew that was coming though) - never ends on this bus!!!

Also managed to fit a new catch on the arm rest and a new perforated leather gear-knob - one from a Chinese seller on ebay. It looks OK, but nowhere near Audi quality and was a real pain to fit.

Airbag light can be switched off, if you have vagcom or OBD Eleven.
I had the light when I removed my glovebox twice.

Cheers norad - trying to find someone round here with the necessary equipment.

BTW - the half-decent looking gear knob..........although it looks like an RS4 item (perforated leather) and has a natty little red pinstripe around the gear configuration, it was a **** to fit and after a short drive today, it's now been replaced for the original. It didn't slide down the gear stick as far as the original, so it kept popping the trim out and as the 'throw' was longer, the gear-change seemed to lose all of it's Audiness.

Gave the bus a service today. Changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter. All parts from TPS.

By the looks of the old filters it was slighly overdue haha.

Pulled the turbo off today and cleaned it off and replaced the oil return line. The old one was severely linked and pretty much collapsing on itself. I’m fairly positive this was the source of my smoking. I took it for a hard drive afterwards and had very little smoking. I think it’s just residual oil still trying to burn off. I think I’m in the clear but I’m gonna give it a few days and some hard drives. I have an overboost condition right now. I think it later related to my DV. I have the GFB DV+ in. I’ll try removing the spring and if that doesn’t work then I will remove the GFB all together.

Additional note about the turbo. The wheel spun freely and quietly with no shaft play whatsoever. Felt really good about that.

Hi folks - I had my car up in the air again to readjust the font ride height - was just too fed up with clipping every tiny bit of detritus on our wonderful roads...... I think this may be about right this time - arch gaps look about the same front & rear. Wotcha think?

Final Ride Height

I need to replace the font lip spoiler now as its met one too many kerbs & sleeping policemen. Guess it can wait until the bumpers off so I can fix my grille again.......
I unexpectedly also had to replace a CV joint boot which I spotted was split after jacking the car up - but that turned into a right time wasting saga as well - Have a look at Robs CV joint thread for more grisly details.

Looking good Rob. Is that the Newsouth boost gadge hiding in your air vent? I’ve got one ready to go in shorty... any tips for the install?

It is indeedy Rob, it is the B7 one that normally fits into the centre vents , but I decided to make a few changes and fit it the side vent, which worked out very well.
very easy to fit, just a matter of getting the air line through the bulkhead, which was easier through the ECU housing.

That’s good news. I didn’t want to install it in one of the centre vents either, good to know it’s possible!

Looks good Paul. What downpipe / intercooler did you go for. Exploring those options at the moment. I think I’m the same engine as you BKN?
