just bought an A4 s line 272 tdi and thought I would say hi

The car came with quite a few extras, sports adaptive suspension, head up, matrix, b&o, and a few other extras. Didn’t have heated seats though, will see if I miss those over the next few months.

Coming from a 320d m sport auto which I had for 4 yrs, its mostly been positive. The A4 is much faster, smoother, quieter, very footed. The biggest issue so far has been the b&o stereo, the only settings I can see is bass and treble! I liked the full equaliser the Harman on the 320d had, again will see how I get on with it.

I don’t think I will mod the A4, maybe upgrade my 18’s to 19’s, but that is the most I will do, don’t think it needs much else (famous last words).

Couple of quick newbie questions, how do you check the adblu? Or does it just pop up? And how smooth should the v6 be at idle? It’s very smooth when driving, but when waiting at lights you can feel the vibration through pedals and floor from the engine, is this normal?

Hi Welcome to the world of Audi,
On Adblu it just pops up when ready to be refilled and gives you an indication of how many miles you have before the car will stop moving... but dont worry its many... 100s ...
I haven't got the V6 so cant help you on this one,
Hope you enjoy the car!

I had an A6 50tdi recently and I found it surprisingly rough and noisy at idle so could just be the way they are

Welcome to the board and Audi ownership.

On the B&O topic - coming from another Audi model with an epic Bose system I was a bit 'underwhelmed' by the B&O however members here said 'give it time', it seems to be the case.

In the Sound settings there is something called 'Sound Effects', opinions vary over the 3D sound option there. The B&O has an active sound processor in addition to the extra speakers - some don't like the effect. According to page 334 of the PDF manual:

- Off: sound is switched off.
-low: 3D sound is optimised for e.g. audiobooks.
-medium: 3D sound is optimised for all sources.
-high: 3D sound is set to maximum

I've found, to my 61 year old ears, that High is a pretty good compromise and actually creates a rather impressive sound stage - give it a try.

Thanks for the replies, will for sure play with the sound settings some more, I normally find things like 3D sound ruin the experience, but it is all subjective, no harm in playing with the settings. Also need to get to grips with all the online/connect features.

Would be interesting to hear from other V6 tdi owners, is it really this rough at idle? It’s hardly world ending, but seems strange based on how smooth it is when driving

Once I have given it a clean, red looks like a hard colour to keep clean so far :redrs4:

Getting it out for a longer drive today by going to the office, any excuse

Is it Matador or Tango red? Either way they are easy enough if you know what you're doing. Just a matter of using a sealant and then prewash with either snow foam or citrus juice.
Or you can go the whole hog and get a proper professional detail with a ceramic coat as I did:

Have to say mine doesn't seem particularly rough at idle: I've never noticed any vibration while stationary (at least not any more than in any other car I've had). Hard to say via a forum if yours is normal or not though, ours could be exactly the same and I could just not be noticing something that would really bother you. Can you get a test drive in another one with the same engine anywhere locally?

Agreed, my V6 is smooth at idle. Overall it’s a great car - relaxed at motorway speeds but also fun to drive when conditions allow.

Another 272 owner - mines perfectly refined at idle.

On a cold day when the revs stay at 1k u can feel a tad vibration but it's nothing too much.

Wow, wish I had that kind of time, kids make sure I keep busy, I got most of the gear from before kids gathering dust, it’s tango red which is a hideous name but really nice colour in person, just found cracks in all of my rear lights, well strange off to dealer tomorrow, will get those and the vibration at idle checked out, it’s through the seat and wheel. I also have advanced key, but the boot isn’t electric, I thought the 2 items came together?

Have you heard of any saloons being supplied with a electric boot lid Fozzie1960? I think the manual calls the tailgate of a avant a boot lid. I have not heard of any saloons having electric boot lids unless fitted with a aftermarket one not supplied by Audi.
Certainly none of the major suppliers of genuine Audi retrofits supply one and only Kufatec supply a genuine kit for a Avant...

HI have you had your car checked yet for the vibration at tick over? There is a ecu update available.

Hi & welcome
Mine is the 218 but the metal bits are the same. It's smooth. Admittedly when cold it sits at 1000rpm and is noisier but when warm it's silky smooth at idle. My previous, a 335d from BMW was smooth but not Audi smooth. In fact a mate (who admittedly drives a 4cyl diesel Kia) asked if it was a hybrid when I was parking because he couldn't hear or feel the motor when I was reversing!!

Hi, Welcome to the 272 club
Haven't had any issues with idling rough even with the cold weather.
No vibration issues through the seats and pedals.
Might want to keep an eye out for a dodgy battery they all seem to have got. Warning signs are struggling to start or throwing up brake errors at start up. All owners got it replaced through warranty.
There is a thread on this in here.
Apart from that it is a cracking car with plenty torque.
Bit hungry on the juice round town.
Can be a bit laggy at junctions before it goes but you get used to it. Deffo worse in efficiency mode.
Anyways enjoy the car and let us know how you get on with the idle

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my battery as described here, but my Audi garage didn’t want to know. How did you go about getting it replaced under warranty?

There is a thread on here with everyone having the same symptoms and getting the battery changed under warranty.
I booked the car in and told them the car was struggling to start.
Luckily enough it threw the brake faults that morning when I started the car.
If no joy I'd phone Audi UK and complain.
Or try another Audi garage.
I went to Aberdeen Audi if it's any use

Thanks all for the replies, sorry been a bit busy and also trying to resolve the rear lights, now sorted, just need to book it in, will also see if they know about the ECU update.

Apart from these bits I have been loving the car, will post up a little F30 to B9 review once I’ve had some more time behind the wheel

Welcome to the 272 club!

Definently enquire about the ecu update as in my opinion the car is driving a lot smoother than before. It's just so much more driveable
