Just found this old recall for the rear tie rose joint problem that caused the rod to snap.(see link)

Looking at the build dates on this recall i wonder why my 2002 S3 had a tie rod snap in the past and still has the rose joint bush's fitted and not the solid bush's which is the updated part?

Am i wrong in thinking Audi should have recalled all the cars and fitted the solid bush?

Steve

might be worth giving audi a bell. they never called me or let me know about the coil pack recall, but i called them and they said they would replace them if i wanted free of charge.

Does this mean vehicles after feb 2000 are not due the recall for the updated parts and should already have them?

That's how i read it, but the bush that was on the recall cars was still on cars after Feb 2000

I have just brought this kit off ebay which was good value, TPS said it was no longer available but cost £470

I will order the updated bush 1J0505203 as this kit has the rose joint bush, might as well to do the trailing arm bush's and rear ant roll bar while while i am at it :sunglasses:

Hi S3JACKSON, many thanks for this info. I see there has been a few recalls on A3/S3 8L - something I wasn't aware of. Can I just make a note of these and get Audi to check/fix them free of charge? Or would they have done this automatically when it was in at some stage previously?

audi were able to tell me that mine had been in for the coil pack recall from reg no.

Hi mate,

How did you get on with Audi over this? I am about to contact them over same question as I believe my S3 2002 also has the rose joint bushes and not the upgrades. Reason I think this is a local garage had fitted my suspension, drop links ARB etc but didn't fit these new bushes I had bought from TPS telling me my originals were better bushes as had more movement in them. I didn't think anything of it at the time but now it points to me having the rose joint bushes.
Steve

I think the rose joints are better if they don't seize, but in the past one of mine has and caused the tie rod to break. This updated bush was fitted to the mk2 TT's from the factory.

I don't think Audi will be interested so i am going to fit this tie rod kit and the updated bush's along with new trailing arm bush's and new bolts.
I had the tracking checked last week and the toe in on the rear were out so i will get all this done and then get the tracking set up as perfect as i can get it.

I am keeping my car standard but i might fit the 4motion 16mm rear anti roll bar with new bush's and drop links while i am at it.

Hi mate,
Yeah couldn't get anywhere with Audi, after taking my reg their system doesn't show up any recall for these bushes.
I also have my rear toe in is out of spec a bit but I have had new suspension that has lowered it slightly.
What is the numbers for your rear alignment camber and toe at the moment?

Cheers Steve

Hi Steve

Just fitted my tailing arm bush's and tie rod kit.Glad i did as my rose joints were seized up and one of the rear springs was snapped.

Here are my tracking readings

Feel fresher/better?

I'm about to have the same done except with poly bushes inbound and the large one in the front of the trailing arm. At least one of my rose bushes has also seized.

How did you remove those rose joint bushes s3jackson?

Cool, well done on that job mate. You don't have much rear camber at all but I suppose that's because you haven't lowered yours. Did you need to renew the rubber spring seats top and bottom or reuse the originals?
My right rear sits about 1cm lower than the left which gives me more neg camber and toe so I wonder if any of these bushes or spring seats are to blame.
Steve

The rose joint can just be hammered out with a socket and hammer u might need to heat them a bit or soak them in wd40

Hahahah it's just incase someones in the same situation and reads this post so they would know what to do theres quite a few posts where theres no answer in the end
