Any one know what is the standard/OEM clutch make that is in the non S3, 2lt 8p TFSI Quattro?
55 plate AXX engine.
Also what sort of torque it will take?
Cheers.

Also interested to know - I see there are a few listed on CP4L (18% off listed prices) for non-quattro ... Valeo, Sachs (standard) and LuK.

Been looking at this clutch but I guess time will tell how good they are. No reviews yet

My mate recently had to change his after he broke his pressure plate and it had an LUK fitted which we believe was the original clutch his was also a 55 reg axx quattro as far as torque figures go im not sure dont see how this is much help lol

RTS are relatively new to the VAG scene but getting very good feedback from the Seat Cupra forums. That's not a bad price for the set but you'll need the release bearing too.
You'll need release bearing with any clutch kit.
This kit is interesting..

@Robin Chandler - did you end up replacing your clutch?

I’ve had it with the Spec so I have an RTS kit on order from Australia (via AwesomeGTI).
There are more and more good reports about the RTS smf clutch. My son has sat in an S3 with one and he reported that the pedal pressure is similar to standard and he moved the car backwards and forwards. I have been in contact with 2 people with one and both are very pleased. The owner of the car that was used by Awesome as a trial fit has just had a TTE 480 fitted but no reports yet of how it is coping.
Lisa, one of the Awesome employees is having one fitted into an S3 tomorrow.
I an very tempted as I need a new clutch but don’t want it to be too heavy.

Thanks for the update Peter. I decided the RTS and SMF was worth a try - the Spec Stg2+ is taking all enjoyment from the car away. I’ve read some positive feedback on the RTS kit so I hope it’s like this in reality.

No experience with the RTS clutch kit, but I did replace my TTS clutch with the helix clutch kit from AKSTuning. My car was running 320bhp on stage 1, but that clutch was good for going quite a bit more power. I paid them just short of £1200 for it fitted. Clutch was slightly heavier than normal (My wife didn't really notice tbh), but the way it bit was brilliant. Alot more "definate" in its feel and was great if you wanted to launch it from a standing start :whistle2:

The Helix dmf organic is rated to about 420 lbs ft.
I have talked to AKS in depth as we had 2 Helix failures about 18 months ago on a TTS. He assured me totally OK now.
I just need to make the correct decision as I have metal knee joint and so I am keen to avoid a really strong spring pedal!

I’ve had it with the Spec so I have an RTS kit on order from Australia (via AwesomeGTI).

I ended up going oem, wife was in a car accident and her car was written off so had to go for the cheaper option.
I've read somewhere that the RTS clutch with dmf had problems with a premature failure! Cant remember if it was on the tfsi Facebook page! That's the only one I've heard about though!

Yes I saw that too about the DMF failure. I read further and it was considered as OK by a real expert.

What irked you about the Spec?

I have it in my car n I am starting to question its effect i.e. gear stick not feeling as assured anymore, I am having to place in 3rd + 4th,whereas it used to flop back to centre.

Also, there is a definitive cluck starting to happen when i engage it for gear changes...my instincts say release bearing or something but I am not sure

Most people who have trouble with Spec clutches find it difficult to change gear at high revs.

Is that with the disengagement of the previous gear or engagement of the next?

I will "miss" the next gear like 1 in 50 times (normally 1st to 2nd) when 'making progress', but I was putting it down to my left leg being lazy, as it doesnt happen all the time

Everything about it really. The pedal isn’t heavy but I get caught when changing gears either up or down. When I coast down a hill in say 5th, it needs a good yank on the stick to get out of 5th.

Between gear changes and when setting off I have the ceramic/metallic clutch slip noise (racecar) that’s driving me insane.

As for chatter, that’s expdcted in the smf but I’m over that noise.

I’ve adjusted the linkages and have a braided hose so I don’t think this is the issue.

It seems that you are slowly getting issues i had for years. Gears getting stuck is because release bearing doesn't push pressure plate enough (different offset on some pressure plates and stronger springs).
That can be solved with release bearing shims.
Gear changing issues at 6000+ rpm is input shaft play. Input shaft bearing wears the housing and the loose end of shaft at high rpm spins excentric which makes it hard to change gear and ocasionally goes into wrong gear.
Solution for this depending on the gearbox is either input shaft bearing shim (02M gearbox) or input shaft mod which consists of extending the input shaft on the loose end and adding pilot bearing from dsg box (02Q gearbox).
Ubfirtunatelly it's expensive job and gearbox needs to be taken apart.
I've had those issues for 2 years. Hated driving the car. Considered either selling the car or finding the solution. So after i gathered all the info we experinented with input shaft mod.
Now it's beautifull. Same clutch kit, i don't get stuck gears anymore, and can easily and quick change gears at 7000-7200 rpm. And this was before i added engine mounts.
Now it's a propper manual sports car.
Only thing i think i should have done at the same time is add 4th gear support (4th gear change seems to take a bit longer compared to rest of the gears but no biggie).

I was getting my car MOT'd this morning n she is sitting running idle...the racket that was coming out of her was offensive. I have always since getting the spec put in thought maybe it wasnt put in right as it just seems lacking on the separation/release

The RTS smf is much heavier than normal and apparently eliminates or massively reduces rattle.
Lisa at Awesome had one fitted into her S3 last week and so there would be an opportunity to hear one and maybe sit in the seat to try the pedal if you are in the area

The thing is that when they are freshly fitted they tend to work great and there's no rattle or chatter. I remember when fitting mine loba/sachs kit it was amazing but few months later it was awfull. And i don't do much miles...

Had a wee bump in the car which resulted in her getting written off (apparently 7.5k worth of repairs).

I wasnt convinced with this estimate, so I purchased her back from the insurance company, and have managed to get her legally back on the road for less than 20% of that quote.

But to bring it back on track, the guy doing the repairs mentioned the rattle on idle which I've highlighted earlier in this thread. He said that it is common for the gearboxes to start going AWOL with uprated clutches.

Without stripping down etc we wouldnt know whether it is the clutch or the gearbox causing the loud chatter, as the sound goes when the clutch is depressed :s (above I mentioned possibly the clutch bearing).

sooooo 2 questions, for those with SMF clutches has anyone fitted an aftermarket engine dampener like the below
https://www.uspmotorsports.com/Fluidampr-Engine-Damper-2.0T-FSI.html

Secondly, does anyone have a recommendation for a garage that specialises to strip down the gearbox/clutch in London (preferably Saaaff London)? I know R-Tech n AMD are possible options, but it is just aggro getting to/from there as I would likely need to leave car.

Merci
