Hi, im new so cut me some slack.. im looking to buy a 2018 A6 Allroad.. the car does not have the "Technology Pack" but has the lower level media (hope this makes sense) my question is can i upgrade the car (retrofit) the Technology pack . Thanks in advance.

Hi

You can but it is expensive (c£3.5k) and you could invalidate your warranty.

You could do it yourself for less but its a fairly big job

Something I am considering when mine is out of warranty at the end of the year

Is there much benefit over the lower spec system ? My Audi dealer says not.. but then again he would wouldn't he haha

It is better, bigger display, better resolution, faster to load, colour dash etc but the standard one is perfectly functional.

I compromised as I wanted the Tech Pack but there were very few BiTDIs around in general and hardly any with Tech Pack so decided to go for one that was at a near by Audi dealer with everything else I wanted.

Ive posted a link to the car im looking at above

Looks nice

Got memory seats and pan roof. The more powerful 3.0tdi would obviously go better but if you are not fussed about that (and 7.1s to 60 is plenty really) it will be nice and smooth regardless.

You may be as well looking at an A6 with the tech pack just to compare and see if it matters to you?

I’m new to this Audi lark... I see some with different horsepower? Are they different engines ?

There are typically 4 Diesel varieties

2.0tdi at 190hp
3.0tdi at 218hp
3.0tdi at 272hp
3.0 BiTDI at 320hp

Yep

Just corrected my post as it was meant to say 4!

The 2.0 is a 4 cylinder single turbo, the two 3.0’s are V6’s with a single turbo (not sure if it is the same turbo or whether the difference in power is just the ecu) and the BiTDI is a twin turbo V6

My mate is a Revo dealer who does VAG and he says he can get good gains on the car I’m looking at

I have a suspicion that the hardware is the same between the 218hp and 272hp version so the map could get you over 300hp. I’m no expert though!!

I had the tech pack and panoramic sun roof on my wish list when looking. I went for one with tech pack but no pan roof in the end. I’m so glad, as I’ve since had a Merc courtesy car with a pan roof & it wasn’t really that great. In fact I quite like being in a darker cab.

The tech pack is a really nice option with the bigger, higher def screen and colour DIS for displaying maps etc. Also being able to upload your music collection to the car’s hard drive is a really nice perk.

If it was me, I’d hold out longer until you get the spec you want, as you’ll no doubt have the car for a good few years, so you may as well hold out a while longer for one you’ll be happy with for years to come.

Hope this helps.
