Driving home along the A38 on Sunday and the MMI screen went blank and the bit of the VC display giving navigation directions reverted to its non-navigation mode (the mpg "bar").

Around 30 seconds later it returned as if nothing had happened - which pressing buttons randomly may or may not have had an impact.

Anybody else had this happen to them?

The S5 software is 'flakey' at the best of times. Over the course of 2 years of ownership a number of querky things have happened. They always manage to reset on power off/on though. The ECU/MMI is basically just a computer with a software operating system running almost the entire cars systems so these things happen from time to time like on a laptop or PC. Not had the MMI screen one you mention yet though. If it becomes persistent then I would have it checked out.

Will mention it when the car go in service later this year - assuming it doesn't happen again, hopefully it has stored some kind of fault code

Not denying your experience, but have had zero issues with mine, not even slight oddities or quirks, in 2 years and 21k.

As the A4 B9 has the same system I can vouch for it being ok with mine. There has been to one or two negative experiences but I doubt if it is 'flakey' software. The MMI system is actually based upon the same coding as QNX....

I had this for the first time last week. Only noticed it because VC said Traffic signs system was inactive. Then the MMI screen went blank, but VC stayed up (thank goodness). The MMI then rebooted on it's own and then everything was back up as though nothing happened. First time since new May last year.
