The stereo is part of the cars system and would be a nightmare to swap out. Easier solution is a Dension Most adaptor. You can get a aux in socket, USB socket to run from a usb or say the iphone directly. Some also come with dab and Bluetooth if required.
It connects in the MOST optical audio connectors and normally accessible from the CD player in the glove box.

That’s exactly what I had in my 55 plate A6 with a 2G high.
Easy to install remove the CD player out of the glove box, behind it you will find the optical link connectors on the back you can either ditch the CD player with a Single FOT version or use a dual FOT version to keep the CD player.
Take the power from the cable in the back of the CD player for the + and - connections as this will switch on when car unlocked.
It will show as disc 6 in single FOT mode.
If you take out the glovebox do not disconnect air bag unless you have the ability and kit to reset the code. IE Vag-Com.
