got an A5 coupe TDI in May 2018. First Audi and it is a great car with good miles per gallon. I have test driven an A7 and love it! I find it slightly faster and responsive especially on the motorway. It wouldn’t make sense to change cars so quick at least not financially. Has anyone traded in a car in less than a year? Trying to justify placing an order.

Only your heart could justify that.

Financially it’s a mad decision but it’s only money !!

Your cash your choice as they say.

I had an A7 before, They have a really nice stance but I found it a rather fragile car. Love my S5 though!

Which year was it? Driven one and found it sturdier and less vibrations felt while driving compare to the A5.

Strange you find vibrations in the A5! I only thought yesterday that it's a bit boring not feeling anything! I had an S3 before and you felt everything due to the very stiff suspension.

I think I have a sensitive hearing as my wife can’t hear it or I am going crazy. Some rattling noises from the air con I think. I spend around 3.5 hours a day driving so looking for something quiet and comfortable.

Car has been inspected and nothing wrong was found.
Doesn't mean there isn't though. It's probably the dealerships first response, however if you can capture a recording of it then you'll have evidence...

It didn't help when I had a BMW 1 series almost write it off, steered into the front wing but carried on steering into it and even smashed the rear alloy and ripped half of the rear door off, was a right mess.

I had a black edition with 21" rotor alloys, just looked at a curb and they were scuffed.

I swapped for a boring Land Rover Disco Sport, was considering another A7 when I moved back to Audi last year after a couple of years with the Disco, no need for push chairs etc anymore. Ended up choosing a 6 month old S5 with 5600 miles on it, had Tech Pack, light and vision pack, heated steering wheel and as you can see from my signature I have added a few bits.

I love the fact that it's such a fun drive, the A7 was good but it was too wide and doesn't handle anywhere as good as the S5 does, I also don't like the new touch panels, I think the S5 interior is actually nicer.

Everyone has their own opinion, I have tried both tho

I did test drive an S5 and really like it but doing about 15k miles per year.

If it helps I have seen little to no difference in fuel running costs from my A7 in 2015, to the Land Rover Disco Sport I had in 2016 to the S5 I now have from the middle of last year.

Fun wise I think the S5 trumps the A7, practicality wise they are on par since I have the sportback, the only difference I see is that I can't get someone else inbetween two big car seats in the rear which I could in the Land Rover and at a squeeze in the A7.

The A7 was lovely, the S5 is cheaper though and more fun so I doubt I would go back.

Went into the dealership to look at the new Q5 (trade the S3 in for one due to new baby and the misses needs more space for pram etc), so whilst she was faffing about in the Q5 (3.0 TDI Sport - same power as our S3, but more torque and friendlier on the fill ups), I took the new A7 out (only just being launched here in Oz) and yes, it was nice, but the touch screens were annoying to use when driving and the fingerprints left on them....OCD cleanfreaks beware! :grief:
Driving about town and on some back roads, I really felt the 2 tonnes of car when braking or coming to a stop which felt like I was towing my boat and the lurch you get when stopping....felt unnerving, but cruising about the air suspension was beautiful and didnt feel the usual spine breaking bumps the S3 gives me on the same roads.
Was a nice car if you do lots of motorway miles, but wouldn't get one as a daily driver over the incoming S5.

Going for a test drive for an A8. If the test drive goes well I would be swapping an A5 TDI 190 for an A8 TDI 50 2018. Appreciate any advice on whether is a good upgrade and what to look for.
Thanks

Somehow an approved used A8 is more affordable than an approved used A7. Looking for a change from the A5 coupe. There is a £5k contribution on the A8 right now and found one for £43k that had an original value of £70k

It’s got to be a personal choice on this.

The A8 is a formidable package but unless you are carrying people around all the time it’s a very large car for one!

Travelling solo most of the time but struggle during holidays picking up relatives or just going away with with wife on the coupe as it is pretty low. Definitely bigger than what I drive right now but will check dimensions tomorrow and see if I can go through width restrictions without any issues

I'd personally say if it is just you driving it 85% of the time, seems like a big car just for the odd time you might have passengers.

Very good drive and luxury interior, still unsure about the dimensions as it is a massive car,

Think hard about what you've said mate! I was exactly the same way in thinking when I looked at the TT, most of the time it's either just me in the car or me and the wife, apart from weekends if we got out with friends. I knocked the TT off my list and went for the A5 coupe because we said we'd be able to get people in the back of the A5 and wouldn't in the TT. So I bought the A5 and since then I can safely say max times we've had anyone in the back for a lift is about 10 in almost 18 months. If we go out with friends they say "Take our car as it's a four door and more room".

PS: As I'm 6ft1 and have the seat right back, so nobody can sit behind me anyway, as there isn't any room :) So basically I bought the A5 to give a 3rd person the odd lift!!!

If I could turn back time I'd 100% have gone for the TT, my thoughts now are "You buy a car for you, not for giving people the occasional lift".

On my list next 2019 TT black edition:

I like the A8. It is not as low and uncomfortable to get in/out. I like the A8 but my issue justifying switching from an A5 coupe to an A8 if I am driving mostly on my own. Tech available on the A8 is way better than the A5.

You mentioned about the car being low for your wife, why not look at something like this, higher up for easy access, space for passengers and luggage, OK mpg, loads of toys and quick: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201811192559201?

We got a Q5. The prospective A8 is my daily driver.
So why the need for another big car to carry people? Confused a bit!?!? If I had a Q5 then I'd be getting a little sporty 2 seater for myself/work.

Looking for a change. I was after an A7 but out of my budget.
