2005 2.0 tdi sport, bkd engine, 6 speed box.

Coming up to 116k miles, Service history shows no evidence of geArbox oil being changed.
Thinking of doing this myself. Anybody know the correct fluid and capacity ?

Thanks in advance.

For smooth gear changes, especially when cold most people recommend the genuine VAG oil. Sorry cannot help you with the quantity.

VAG oil ... absolutely.

I eventually managed to get through to my local AUDI main dealer...they informed me the gear box is "sealed for life" and shouldn't require changing ... regardless, it takes 2.3 ltrs at £24.89 ltr.

Any car maker will say the gearbox and diff are filled “for life”, they actually mean for 8 years, Which is the average life of a car from birth to the scrap heap. We know better.

'Sealed for life' but come with drain and fill holes.
Regardless of what dealers think, if my car needs a gearbox oil change it will get one. I pay for the repairs when they fail, so I'll pay maintenance to prevent it.

I had my Mk 4 GTi changed at approx 100 k miles with some Castrol gear box oil as recommended by a local transmission specialist. The gear change when cold was awful. As a last chance before getting rid of the car I had a flush with VAG oil for my car. It was then better than ever and so 31k later it is still excellent.

Another quick question lol.
How did you jack up the car, just one corner, all 4 or just the front. Cheers

I only jacked up the near side front and then supported the car on an axle stand, wheel and engine under tray off and then lower wheelarch liner off too.
This gave unimpeded access to the gearbox filler plug and drain plug.
Obviously I made sure the filler plug was loose before I attempted to drain off the oil!
It’s not essential to remove the lower wheel arch liner but it did make things so much easier when filling the gearbox.
It was a really easy job TBH.

Up to peeps if they want to get ripped off with so called genuine oil when a certain maker produces it and another may have a significant hand in developing it...
