Hi all,

Been a poster over in the A3/S3 forum for a while now, but I am now joining this one. I have sold by 2017 S3 saloon and taken the plunge and bought an 18 plate white S5 coupe, with only 2.5k miles on the clock. Got a cracking deal from my local dealer, managed to get him down to £33.5k, which was way below the retail value of the car.

Anyway, only had the car since Thursday of last week but already loving it. The sound of the V6 won't get old, had my first drive to work, and can't wait to drive home! Anyway here are a few pics, would welcome any tips/tricks other owners have discovered with their ownership :)

Looks great!....well done. You will notice the extra fuel cost though compared to an S3. There are now a few decent upgrades out there for the B9 that may be worth looking at if you are that way inclined.

Thanks, yes noticed the MPG is about 20% worse than the S3 but wasn't expecting comparable figures as it is a much bigger engine :) I can't justify performance mods as my insurance would sky rocket as am only young, but would definitely be interested in any styling/appearance modifications.

Hi mate and good choice

If u enjoy using paddle shifts
Put it in S mode (dynamic) and switch it to manual gearshifts

Now every time u downshift while in high revs you’ll hear the awesome sound from the exhausts

Sounds like some fun for the drive home, used to do this in the S3, assume similar rev range (3.5krpm -4krpm) for best noise? Thanks also, really enjoying it so far, it is hard not to I think!

Yea mate
The higher the revs the more beastly it sounds

I have to take my 17 and 15 year old for a drive every weekend we love it that much lol.

What tyres do u have on it at moment?

Haha well I'm only 20 ;) Will defo do this on the way home! Must be the stock tyres still as only 2.5k miles on it, when the tyres need changing would be looking at getting Michelin PS4s on them.

Hi mate welcome to the A5 section :) White is p easy to keep clean :)

Think this was asked in the small car section :p but did you say the insurance was a tad cheaper as well?

It was but had to cancel my old policy, so same initial details except for the car. S3 was £2k and S5 was £1.1k :) #Winning

What did you have on before the PS4's if I can ask? Hanooks or Conti's? I have Contis but need to replace all 4 and am considering Eagle F1's based on price and how quiet they are.

I had hankooks
Never really liked them
Much better feedback, response and grip with PS4(S)

It all comes down to what u want from ur tyres

The PS4(S) are 20% track and 80% road use

I like to drive my quite aggressive (situation and roads permitting)

Do have a question which has arisen on my drive this morning. Everytime I brake or release the accelerator, the average MPG line on the V.C shoots in to the green section and my average MPG slightly goes up. Just wondering what is actually happening?

Every time u release the throttle(when car is moving) the gauge going into green means the engine (fuel consumption) is in its most efficient state and u are getting the most MPG.

When u press on the throttle this bar will go down meaning u are using more fuel hence less MPG

Apologies, I understand the gauge. Just curious why braking and releasing the throttle would boost mpg as engine is still under the same load. Didn't know if it's some clever electronic stuff going on

It would boost mpg by merely going easy on the throttle (although it may not look so obvious) the less throttle u give the less fuel u use

Lovely car and you got an amazing deal there. What sort of extras does the car have?

Are the PS4's noiser than the Hanooks?

Thanks! It is relatively stock, just has privacy glass and virtual cockpit I believe. Think the rest are all just standard on the S5. I'm happy as most of this is all extra over the S3.

Thanks Dan! I did try Adrian Flux but the prices being quoted were silly money unfortunately.

Where did u finally get ur car insured?
The price u got seems quite competitive...

Just used comparethemarket. Ended up with Admiral being the cheapest.

Very nice mate....some non Audi carpet mats would finish it off...say a nice red or blue edging! ;)
Haha very true! The ones @Leevr showed for his S3, will probably get something similar down the line. Trying to hold off on spending too much so soon

Try LV directly on their site. You can add that the car has pre-sense and it takes the premium down quite a bit.

Not really a tip or a trick but seeing you got such a good deal on the price how about retrofitting the Carbon Atlas just completely finishes the interior feel off imho not a cheap retrofit though I don’t think

Thanks for the recommendation mate, probably not something I'd consider. Wasn't too big a fan of the inlay. I think if I were to spend money I'd consider changing the front grill to honeycomb but read a lot of reviews for the popular ones causing issues with sensors etc, would also probably need the chrome trim wrapping black if I went for this as well.

I looked in to this and its over £1,000 for the dealer to supply the carbon atlas trims. I dont like the aluminium at all but will put up with it
