Facelift S3 holds its own.

Nothing about badge snobbery, its about the dealerships. I have had a few fords in the past albeit quite a while back and the after sales was woeful.
The dealerships haven't changed, at least in this area and this was the only reason I didn't consider a mustang.
That's just the way it came across Chris, but thanks for clarifying what you meant. :)
There are good and bad dealerships from all manufacturers, but I don't believe any one is inherently bad.
I've owned a few Fords including 2 Mk.3 ST's, and I've not had any problems with the dealerships....well not enough to think they were bad anyway. :D
They have certainly been cheaper to routine service than Audi, that's for sure.
I like the Mustang a lot, but couldn't bring myself to buy a RWD car.

They are awful here, and knowing current Ford owners they tell me are still as bad as when I used them.

I had an escort RS2000 and it regularly came out of a service or warranty work worse than when it went in.

They don't sound anything like that, having driven two different A35s I can say with certainty they have a very nice note, hopefully getting better as the engine loosens up. My S3 had a good 5k on it before it actually started to produce a nice throaty note.

Surely Ford dealerships aren't as bad as Audi ones? Glass palaces full of sales people who are not exactly honest (in my limited experience) and servicing that costs £310 but they'll pricematch at £140.

Small Ford dealer I spoke recently came across as totally honest. They told me to not VT my car just in case it negatively affected my chance of future finance and that they hoped I'd consider them when my current deal ended.

Compare that to an Audi telling me I had to come in this weekend to get an unbeatable deal and to beat Brexit price increases.

The look on Yanni's face as the s3 caught and passed him was priceless.

And I expected a lot more from the RS in the drag race tbh.

I think their telling you not to VT a car in case it effects your chances of future finance shows more about their lack of understanding regarding it rather than their honesty.

It would be interesting to see what the members on the BMW, Merc, Golf R & Ford RS forums are saying about this vid ... :whistle2:

Bm owners are blaming poor start and golf r owners are suggesting it’s mapped as they’ve never seen and s3 beat an r before. S3 has aluminium bonnet and wings. Should be lighter than the golf

Probably the same as most people on this forum TBH, depending on what forum you are on, the S3, R, M140i etc is the best car in the world ever and nothing could possibly be better than it because it's the one I have.

Not the current S3 which has 10bhp less than the version they had there.

Amazing how quick it was compared to the R which is meant to have the same engine and power output.

As I have just bought one, also nice to see the A35 AMG destroying the rest of the line up.

you think there is a big difference between the 310 bhp and the new 300 bph?

Having had both, nope, difference in sound but every day driving I’d doubt you’d have a clue that it’s dropped 10psi.

Look how close they all are in this vid, we’re talking 0.5 of a second I reckon across all marks,

A35 doesn't look like it's worth 40k at all going off that showing.

Will it? I thought the bhp battle was coming to an end due to (rightly so) emissions pressure.
I doubt it if there is ways around it with hybrid tech etc that doesn’t effect emissions, only the manufacturers know the real answer though :icon thumright:

I am just saying it was hardly a definitive test, at least two of the cars weren’t standard and all had different drivers which is in itself a contributing factor to how each car performed.

All those Carwow videos/tests are complete rubbish, the fact they had that muppet Yanni or whatever his name as a test driver speaks volumes.

Hatchback cars ain't for me no more don't like any of them now mate

Odd thing to say. The AMG GT is a hatchback, the Porsche Cayman is a hatchback, the Ferrari GT4 Lusso is a hatchback...

@Chris4410 - My thinking too Chris :thumbs up:
Aye.. .. Shoulda bought a S3 lol
@jassyo06 - Smoked a couple of 8V S3's in the Cupra, albeit in the dry mind lol
Plus I didn't have to pay the ridiculous prices for the Audi's extensive options ... :D

@terminator x - I have enough issues with traction & tyre wear with 300bhp thro the front wheels, let alone 370bhp! lol

I haven't seen an A35 on the road yet but I've seen A200d and some other regular ones (I've only seen white ones for some reason) and they don't look good from the rear, at least from my perspective driving behind them. It's hard to explain but its like the rear bumper is too big/tall.

I might be wrong but I don’t think a res delete offers any performance increase to the S3, it’s only the centre pipe.

Personally I think Mercedes have made a mistake with the A35’s power output as the next gen S3 will have at least 20-30 more bhp so will overtake it straight away from day 1, so Audi will win the bragging rights with that one.
Your spot on res delete offers no power increase whatsoever. Audi do understate their published BHP figures, I had my stock my18 on the dyno and it pulled 317 BHP which I thought was pretty good.

It's AWD so traction not an issue. DSG only though.

P***** over an S3 !!
@wab172uk - Just realised its the estate version Cupra (ST) so has the same AWD haldex systems the S3, Golf R & other VAG cars
Tyres may not be such an issue then lol
Oh & no comment on your 2nd statement lol

With You on Quality of Fords customer service and of course their workmanship My lovely ST Focus was brilliant until they got their hands on it,the Customer service manager was former SS in my opinion....My car went into get a replacement headlight and they fitted a different style of headlight in the car.....l drove around for a month with a Chrome finished inlay in one corner and the other had a black inlay....whilst they tried to sort things out....dreadful....RS2000 YOU had @Chris4410.....now a Yella Merc.....What age are ya....lolView attachment 177972

I don’t care a bit what other people think of me, never have. So if anyone has a problem with me driving a yellow car it will be their problem and not mine.

I still dress like I’m 25 anyway, so might as well drive something for a 25 year old as well. I can get away with it as I am young looking for my age, and incredibly attractive:wink new:

It is also a bit ironic I’m getting stick for a yellow car from the bloke who drives a bright blue one:salute:

lol @Chris4410 back in my yoof in the 80's I absolutely loved the RS2000.

My mate has a fully restored one he did himself for sale, the only problem is, it's jobby brown lol:wink:

Focus RS was a bit disappointing considering it has another 40 BHP and it got about a half second jump start in the drag race :tongueclosed:

So does the m140i. Laughable. I know it’s rwd so a disadvantage in a drag race but you would’ve thought it would reel in the s3 but didn’t

Reading a review and the new TTS is down on BHP but up on torque. Would the new S3 follow.suit? This mean the TTS done 0-60 in 4.5s instead of 4.6

The facelift standard TT 45TFSI is 245bhp, 15bhp more than the pre facelift model yet it manages to be slower 0-62 and is also definitely less responsive through the gears. I really like the visual upgrades to the TT but the drive is worse than before.
