I’ve had my new A3 for just over 4 months and I’ve noticed that the steering wheel seems to be wearing down very quickly compared to my last A3.

Admittingly, my leg does brush against the wheel as I get in the car, but I didn’t expect this much wear to occour from it? (See pictures)

Anyone else experience this with the S-Line flat bottom wheel? The standard round wheel in my old A3 Sport and the wheels in my other cars I’ve had didn’t wear this fast - a little dissapointed to say the least...

That is bad, have you applied any protection to the wheel at all?

I haven’t, but I think now might be the time ey?
I'd say so :)

Head over to the detailing forum and ask the question in there what to use, loads of answers guaranteed :) In fact I'm going to do mine as it hasn't been done for a while...(Swissvax Leather Glaze here :)).

You shouldn't need to apply any protection to the wheel to prevent this type of wear over only 4 months or average mileage driving......it has to be able to stand up to "reasonable wear and tear"
Do you or anybody else who drives the car wear any rings that could be causing this?
If this was me I would not be happy at all and would be speaking to my dealer about it.....but bear in mind the first thing they will ask is my previous question.

I fully agree mate, it's not very good at, all especially for a so called top end brand!

Done mine anyway :) almost 18 months old:

Apologies, I never saw this reply!

I don't wear rings and i'm the only person who drives the car, I did think that it seems very excessive - this is the bottom left of the wheel so I do feel it when I hold it :/

Looks like a call to my dealer... I'm sure my name is mud there with the issues i've had with this car!

My car's coming up to 5 years old soon, I drive with rings on my hand. Doesn't have any noticeable wear at all so it's really odd how poor condition yours is in. Would be worth going to the dealer about it, something's definitely not right

To add, my S3 wheel was about 18 months old and I wear a ring on my right hand and there was no visible wear at all on the wheel, no protection on the wheel however it was cleaned regularly.

After 16000 miles my steering wheel is still like new, no fancy coatings, just an occasional wipe over with a hot damp microfibre towel which lifts the muck off.
My issue is the sharp edge of the bolster on the seat back showing wear where I get in and out. The joys of an animal skin interior.

That looks like it’s been rubbed with a Brillo pad or magic eraser. Normal wear on leather is they get smooth and shiny.
I’ve never had to use any leather cleaners, sealants etc on the steering wheel and none of my cars looked like that even ones with over 100k on the clock.
I reckon there was a stain or sticker there at one point and someone has used something to rub it off. You can see the score marks towards the bottom of steering wheel which I would say is consistent with something like a magic eraser.
Your hands are generally at top of wheel not bottom so most wear occurs around the 10 and 2 position.
I can see it being a battle to get that sorted under warranty.

I had this issue with my previous PFL sline flat bottom wheel. was def my jeans on getting out the car, realised this too late. Moved the wheel up slightly and problem solved. managed to mae it better with leather cleaner and eventually normal wear corrected it. The leather on these wheels is thin and not the most hard wearing. Protected the new leather in my current car with this

COLOURLOCK Leather Shield for New leathers & protection from ink & dye transfers on leather (150 ml)

meant for new leather and does the job.
