What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

I’ve got the tube but haven’t fitted it. How did you do it?

First of all undo the 10mm self tapping bolt supporting the metal pipe on the left side of the inlet manifold.
It may help if you remove the flexible pipes and the engine cover to give you better access.

Next, undo the 10mm nut under the dip stick tube. This is actually not supporting the dipstick tube but is holding up the bracket supporting the auxiliary water pump pipe.

Next, push the that bracket down and then towards you to disengage the bracket from the little black stud remaining.

To remove the stud, you need either a 4mm socket or better to use a 4mm midget ring spanner. The stud is a self tapper into the inlet manifold as well. I bought a 4mm midget spanner from EBay.

The dip stick tube is then free to be removed. You may be lucky and if you can get a grip a good tug upwards will loosen it. I found that I managed it by making a loop out of a cable tie then looping it over the dipstick arm with the bolt hole in. I then held the loop and gave me adequate grip to give it a tug upwards. To remove the tube you need to twist it as you raise it, taking careful note of how it comes up and out of the aperture.
Put a bit of oil on the yellow lip of the lower part of the new tube to allow it to slip on more easily. Feed the tube down twisting it into place in reverse of removing it and you will know you are in the correct place as the stud mounting hole will be lined up with the hole in the manifold. It will just sit about 1cm out towards you. You can feel it is on the lip of the pipe down below. Then push down firmly and the tube will click into place and the mounting holes will line up perfectly. If you have got it right, the dipstick will go straight down.
Finally, rebuild in reverse.

Today I removed the tinting film that was on the car and fitted the Solarplexius sheets in their place.
I should say that the tints were decent quality, but had a few nicks in them from tip runs, or some other mistreatment by a previous owner.
Using a clothes steamer I applied lots of steam to the tints and peeled them away with minimal glue left on the glass. Any glue that did stick to the glass was steamed and wiped off easily with a MF cloth.
I was planning to take photos, but from the outside you wouldn't notice any difference and from the inside they are darker tint but with a more redish colour to them. I actually prefer them.
Anyone considering these for their car can find more info on https://www.solarplexius.co.uk/

Can you roll down/up the windows?
Here in London I can get the car tinted for just £3 more compared to what these guys are asking for a Sportback.

Put new tyres on, rainsport tyres at the front and I must say they are gooood! They are gripping in the rain and snow and hardly any wheelspin. Also done a four wheel alignment. Way better now.

I did the same a couple of weeks ago: same tyres on all four corners, and four-wheel alignment. My car feels so much more stable and smooth on the road. Still a little wheelspin occasionally, but I'm probably being a little heavy-footed with the 2.0L turbo!

Do love the look of those! Where did you get that gear knob from and for how much? I was looking at getting one a month ago but the prices just seemed so steep... at least £230 and couldn’t justify it.

Haha must have been the one I was looking at. No regrets now though? It’s very tempting...

After successfully changing the front pads with a friend a year or so ago...the rears and discs needed doing so decided to save the cash from audi and do it all myself(with my friend guiding me).

Once you've done it once it seems so easy to do! Will always do them myself now and maybe attempt more myself too.

I will say one thing though..... don't let the rears get below 95% wear, mine were pretty much metal and as a result we couldn't initially get the wind back tool into the caliper. The solution we used was to put the tool in with a flat face to apply pressure to the piston and wind it using an adjustable grip/pliers, just enough to get the tool in...then was eassyyyyy. :D

How do they perform compared to standard S3 8P calipers,

I couldn’t tell you as I fitted these onto my A3. The reason for upgrade was I had a seized caliper. Brakes feel great but nothing to compare it to.

Today I had the Haldex Controller fitted as it came back from repair this morning.
It was then covered in a sealant spray to add an extra layer of protection so it should last the life of the car.
We then compression tested the engine and inspected the Cam follower as it's been approx 10 months/15k miles since it was changed. It was barely touched, so that's good to know.
As the HPFP was off the car we did the 5mm drill mod, only I decided to play it safe and go up to 3mm instead.
No noticeable difference, so either a waste of time, or 5mm is the best solution.
And to top it off, I was made aware of a guy breaking an S3 locally so we picked up some cheap trim bits that I needed, and got chatting. Turns out he had a MFFBSW that he had provisionally sold to someone that was meant to collect by 5pm today. I mentioned that if the buyer didn't show up I would come straight around with the cash. He contacted us at 5.30 and told us that the buyer hadn't shown up. I collected it at 6.30.
Needs a bit of a clean but it's in great condition and will be fitted at some point soon.

Today was 'clean the car' day.
The inside wasn't much cleaner than the outside, so you can imagine how much it needed a hoover and some interior cleaner.
Before:

After:

And the eagle eyed viewers may spot an additional change to the car.

Pretty sure it's the plate. You ever fancy the facelift rear lights, looking super clean though.

I were just thinking the same with the rear lights. They’d finish it off just nicely as the MY11 rear lights come with the slight factory tint on them. I used to have the black S Line in my profile pic with the facelift rear lights, I’ll see if I’ve got a pic of it.

I don't mind the current rear lights, but if you have a pic of them i'd be interested to see them.

Here they are on mine.

Ok, I can see a difference but they have never stood out to me in the past, so I probably won't bother changing them, unless they become available at a price I can't refuse.
For now, I'll leave mine in place. Thanks for the pic though.

My exact thoughts until I got them from eBay brand new for £140, non Audi branded Magneti Marelli which are the OEM manufacturer.

That’s what mine were like before I sold it.
If I remember correctly I paid about £120 for them from euro car parts (with a discount code) and they were the same make as the other guy says which are magneti marrelli who make the oem lights.

Just looked on ECP and they only have the same ones that I have already.
Got a part number?

If you’re wanting the newer slightly tinted version you just have to be careful if you’re buying 2nd hand as you might get the none tinted version which look exactly the same but obviously aren’t as dark and were present on the 09 - 11 A3 8p’s then 11 - 12 year a3’s were the darker version lights.

You have to put in that your car is a 2011 or above model so that it fetches the newer lights up.
Go to select your vehicle and in year put 2012

I must be wrong or the prices must have changed as I’ve just done it on ECP and with the discount code included it’s £188.99!
