Hi All,

Just bought a new Audi A4 2.0L 190PS TFSI and I must say, the car is just brilliant! Here is a quick pic:

However I need a few advice guidance on how to set up a few things.

I can't get Google Earth to work (that's because there is no SIM in the sim slot) and other online stuff(not sure what they are yet). The question is, can I use any data SIM in the UK?

Secondly, there is like a little square box on all the door handles, I'm guessing you can unlock it using just your finger, but how do you set that up?

Thirdly, the ambient lighting. How do I get the footrests one to stay on all the time (whilst driving)?

Fourthly, I downloaded the myAudi app, and it's given me a PIN to enter on the MMI, but I can't find the 'User Management' option to enter it. Is that because there is no SIM in the car?

I know it's a lot of questions in one thread, but I would really appreciate it if someone can help me enjoy my Audi even better.

Thanks

Congrats! Nice car!

If you have a MY17 onwards , (66 plate >) the car should have an embedded data plan.

Without tech pack - this gives you 3 months, tech pack 3 years. Although Audi have not monitized renewals afaik so you can contact Audi UK to extend this license periods.

MY16 and before require a SIM - which can be any operator, if if you have a decent data plan on you phone you can use this by connecting the car to your phones hotspot.
Or if you have certain Android handsets, you can use what’s called RSAP (remote SIM) which basically disabled the SIM in your phone and gives control of it to the MMI over Bluetooth, where it can use you SMS / Data etc. That’s getting advanced and less common, so may not be a use case for you.

Once you have a data plan, and the Audi Connect options are all licensed (see this under Audi Connect) you can enter PIN from Audi App to link it to your phone.

Door handles - square boxes underneath? That’s ambient lighting for the handles, otherwise not seen them - could be keyless entry if you have it?

Lighting in footwell can be done on MMI under Settings, when in Settings press Left button and an option for lighting should appear there off top of my head. Whilst you are here it might be worth resetting all the settings to factory default to get a ‘clean start’

It's a 16 plate and according to myAudi app(after entering the VIN number), it says I have the tech pack. But it will be 3 years in April since it was first registered.

I have plenty of data on my phone plan, I will try and set this up today.

Door Handles look like this (i'm not at home to take pics of my car, so used this Google image instead). If that's keyless entry, how do I set it up?

Regarding Ambient lighting for the footrest, is there an option to keep them on all the time?

Thanks a lot for your reply.

All handles look like above, but you won't have the hardware behind the handle cover for full keyless as it was an option.

Is there a way to check if it was included in the car?

I'm asking because the dealer I bought the car from, didn't even know 90% of the options on the car and didn't advertised any. I had an amazing bargain! Paid £6K less than what it was supposed to be!

Yes, if you use the myAudi app it should tell you all the options you have. It might be flaky as they are currently updating all of this.

For footwell, you should be able to have them on at all times, at least you can with the extended led, unless it’s a ‘feature’ of that option?

Have keys in pocket, touch the square or try to open door (when locked) if it unlocks you have keyless entry, if not, you don't ;)

I have the extended light pack, according to the app. But the lights turn off when the door closes/or car drives away.

Why would Audi put that tiny square box on all models. It should be on only the ones that have keyless entry no?

They only have to make one handle rather than two.

Nope, it's a generic part, if you spec the option it's enabled, if you don't spec the options it's not.
It's like those with hill start assist, there's a button if you have it, and a blanking plate if not, they don't make a new centre console for each.

Thanks everyone for their input (including the sarcastic ones :p )

Also, the wireless charging box doesn't work. Do I need to activate through the MMI or some sort? I'm using an iPhone XS.

To your 4th point Arshad07:

You need to reset the Audi Connect service in the MMI - then wait at least 12 hours, ideally overnight, so that Audi can automatically reset the account on their system related to the car.... The car then prompts for a clean setup in MMI using the Key tag. Do you have the plastic tag that is usually with the spare key with a 10 digit number on it?

There is a critical step in the set up process where after the code on the Key tag and taking the option to Login the vehicle then asks for a Password OR the MyAudi code number.

You MUST enter the MyAudi code number as this links the mobile app to the car. If you enter the MyAudi password into MMI it still appears to work however the mobile App reports that the 'vehicle has never been seen'.

Thanks for this. How would the Audi Connect reset when it doesn't have internet? (It doesn't have a SIM card in it)

And no, I don't have the plastic tag on the spare key or the main key with the 10 digits. Is there any other way to find that?

Cheers

I have the wireless charger and it definitely does work - at least on Samsung Galaxy S8, Audi are using the QI wireless charging standard, there is no option to turn the wireless charger off.

It sounds like you don't have an embedded SIM in the car (you can't see or find it) from the comments above based on the age of your vehicle - maybe check with an Audi dealer. No Apple iPhone supports a Remote Sim Access Profile (rSAP) because Apple for some reason decided that supporting the whole Bluetooth protocol stack wasn't for them - most modern phones , i.e. Samsung Galaxy devices do. So in iPhone country you will most likely need to get a separate data SIM...have a look on Amazon: For some reason the site won't let me post the URL for a 3 SIM - 12Gb will be enough for navigation data for 12 months.

The lack of the key tag is more serious - I guess you didn't buy it from an Audi dealer given your comments earlier in the thread? If you did - go back to the dealer and demand that they get you the tag (it is important that you have it). The alternative is to call Audi Customer services on 0800 699 888 and explain the situation - I believe that they can request the tag ID from Germany and it takes a few days.

There is a SIM slot in the glove box, I guess I can just insert a data SIM and off I go. Can't I hotspot my current phone to get the car to connect to the internet?

And yes, I bought it from a dealer that isn't Audi.

I just rang up Audi Customer Services and I was told I don't have the module in my car that will enable the Remote Lock, etc, therefore I don't really need the 10 digit number. Does that sound right to you?

All cars have an embedded sim but only later ones have SOS which is identifiable by the buttons on the overhead console...

You do need the number - there is much more than just remote locking. The car can interact with the mobile app and reveal it's location, status, fuel tank level, mileage etc

So Arshad just needs to delete his Connect profile and set it up from scratch.
