SQ5 Pirelli P-Zero PCNS Warranty?

So a about a month back, I noticed the car vibrating like a wheelbarrow on the motorway at 60 mph. Now the car is 2 years old and has done about 11k miles, its been fine til now. I took it to a local shop to get the wheels balanced, but something felt off because of the amount of vibration.

I took it to a local shop, they balanced and tried to rotate the tyres, but the driver side wheel was 120g's off. No visible problems with the alloy or the tyre. They balanced it out anyway since the car was due for a service today.

The car is at Audi now and they have said that the foam acoustic insulation in the tyre has become unstuck, causing the balance problems. Foam inside a tyre? I had never heard of such a thing, maybe tyre weld, but I don't think this is it :) They wanted to charge me £360 to change a single tyre, I said 'no' knowing that it was much cheaper elsewhere.

So looking online tonight, noise reduction foam in the tyre seems to be a thing. PCNS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System) but the foam coming off and causing a balance issue doesn't seem like wear and tear to me and should be covered under warranty. Thoughts?
 
i also had the P Zeros vibrate after 10k miles and about 3mm of tread left. Took mine to Audi and they just rebalanced them, I wonder if that foam was the reason behind mine then as well ?
 
Do you know how far your wheel was off? 120g on mine wasn't normal it's a huge amount. The other wheels were at most 10-20g off.
 
Pirelli will probably say the warranty is null in void because you have hit a pot hole, which is nearly impossible not to on UK's roads nowadays.
 
Hah, dealer said it's not a problem with the car. I should take it up with Perilli myself...calling Audi UK next.
 
I have no idea about how much they were off but I did check the existing weights and could not see any evidence of losing any so I can only presume I had the same issue. My car has had a few problems and that was the second time I have had the car back to the dealers, last week cooling sensor went so it was back again. Would not purchase P Zeros full stop again wear rate is awful. Putting aside the problems still love the car
 
The NCS in the P-Zeroes seems like more trouble than it's worth. Apparently, it reduces road noise by 9 db. What would you get instead, Eagle F1's? I'm suppose to be getting two of the tyres replaced on Sat with P-Zero's (they are the cheapest by about £50 for the set.
 
I need 4 new tyres soon so I have been looking at what’s available on 21s. Looking at the sites the P Zeros PNCS are 68db if they have that correct? I had narrowed it down to the Goodyear F1 68db or Dunlop Sport Max RT 2 which are 70db so maybe not much in it regarding noise levels..Did look at the Michelin latitude but I don’t think there is much rim protection so I have ruled them out.
 
If you want to go the non PCNS P-Zero route, there is a 10% code at Kwikfit. FEB10.
 
I'm in the market for new 21s as well, Costco currently doing £100 off 4 Goodyears which brings them in at £212 inc fitting. It's a fairly new tyre in this size and can't find much info on them, anyone have them fitted?

I can vouch for the Dunlop’s. Very good tyre so far (3k done) very quiet too. And not too bad on grip for my 218 a4

You are correct there is ''noise canceling foam '' in the P zero. Pain in the **** if you get a nail in as there not supposed to cut the foam to do the repair !!!!!!!.
 
I'll be going Dunlop next time. Previous cars, A4 Cabs, A6 Avant and S4 Avant have had Dunlops do over 24k miles between changes. Way more than the Pirelli's ever did.

Tried the price match with Brighton they could not touch any online prices were £250+ more for a set of 4..!!

Since mine have got to around 3mm wear rate seems to have decreased so keeping them on until they hit around 2mm. At nearly 13k now...Maybe I have been driving a little more sedately
 
I'm at 2ok miles now, had to replace two at 8k due a sidewall bulge, but remaining two and the two new ones still legal. Might need some in next 4k miles though....

I do drive fairly sedately and alot of straight line journeys... its a great motorway mileeater!
