I'm after some advice from the knowledgeable folk on here re. paint and bodyshops. I had a small repair done on the bootlid of my 2007 A6 in early September 2017, which required a respray to part of the bootlid and when washing the car at the weekend I noticed laquer peel around the badge, as pictured below. I plan to contact the body shop as my initial thoughts are that there shouldn't be laquer peel 17 months after the job was done. Is it reasonable to expect the body shop to put this right at their expense? There must have been error on their part when doing the job. Is anyone else wondering why the laquer is peeling right there? It was a £210 job so I'm a bit disappointed with this. Any advice welcome folks.

From your picture rather than remove and replace the quattro badge & engine badge they have just sprayed around them, which is one of the reasons why it pealing away, the badges should have been removed and new one fitted after it was painted.

As above they have just masked around the badge, moisture has got under the lacquer.

£210 is quite cheap to be honest. If they had done it properly. I.e removed and replaced badges etc then it would have been much more.

Had the boot lit painted on my M6 and it was double what you paid.

I'm a painter by trade and i seriously don't get why some garages don't just order new badges instead of just masking or clear coating over them. Can only assume they charged for new badges and never bothered with them. Insurance companies are tight when it comes to authorising parts that can be re used but even they won't expect a repairer to use old badges. I'd be looking into the centres of the badge lettering etc to look for evidence of dirt and crud that wasn't removed before being painted over. If so, there's your evidence it was never removed in the first place
