Long delays for new orders due to WLTP emissions testing

I've signed my docs and collecting on Thurs all being well.

No faffing about with moving the deposit money around.... I'm just paying what was agreed and the dealership will pay the rest and claim it back off Audi.

5 day free insurance is standard... even for leasing.

Did you have to set it up yourself or did your dealership do it? I phoned VWFS directly and they were happy to set it up but couldn't find my model (35/BE/Auto). Going to give it another go tomorrow morning.

I've got to ring the number they give and quote the dealer code... but not done it yet. Apparently they can't set it up for you now due to GDPR.

Mines the same as yours apart from manual. If you look you should find it as something like 'Audi A4 s line black edition 110'. The 150 version is the Avant for some reason.

Thanks for the heads up!

For those leasing: have you enquired about the 5 days free insurance others have mentioned? Asked just now but my dealer said Audi no longer offer it?

I’m beginning to suspect that while they’ve been professional, they’re really not interested in finding this out for me or going out of their way at all. I was incorrectly told that the tech package would remove the flat bottom wheel from the Black Edition (it doesn’t), then the rear badges couldn’t be removed during the PDI and had to be factory selected (others have said otherwise), and now this with the insurance. The last one is fine, five days is neither here or there but it’s a bit annoying that I’m getting told things that aren’t true.

Audi do offer drive away insurance but you need to call up in advance to ensure it's added on. When I bought my Golf they called for me during the appointment, but Audi didn't do that and I therefore had to sit in the car on the forecourt waiting for Admiral to insure the car - which was a problem as it wasn't on their system.

Done! :)

Got back home earlier this afternoon after 120 mile drive from the dealer in my new (to me) S4 Avant. Weather was far too cold to put it through its paces but we are certainly pleased with it. It is certainly a step or two up from the S3.

The car is dirty from the journey.

Stunning car mate, congrats. We nearly went for S3 (I went from Golf R to this) but just couldn't afford it (new baby, house etc etc) so will get my toy in a year or so.

It is weird how they've actually not applied the face lift to the S3 at all....

One thing I've really noticed on mine is the splash marks up the edge of the car - as it doesn't come with mud flaps. Anyone found any good mud flaps to fit on? Seems you can find cheap ones or expensive genuine ones....

Well this has just ****** me off, big time.... so in about 6-7 months time my new version will be out of date and the whole A4 has a complete refresh, not just a face lift, so you'll get the double screens etc....

If any of you have a car arriving March/April i'd cancel it and wait for the new model....

I personally dont like the new interior with the double screens. So i'm actually not that fussed, plus my lease is only 2 years anyway. sure some will be annoyed though!

These cars will be on the road by the end of 2020

Can i ask some advice, when i got my A4 Saloon Black Ed - 2.0L 150 - S-Tronic insured i had to get the insurer to manually override the model wording as they didnt have it on the system. So my policy states a Audi A4 4dr Auto 2.0T 150 petrol black edition.

I assume that means im covered right, i know the car can now be looked up using Registration thats all, but i dont want to call and faff with it when i made absolute damn sure on the phone that i was covered, they said all calls recorded as well so if it ever came to it, they would hear me voicing about the model stipulation over and over.

Did anyone else have anything similar?

P.S. Just signed up for the free Audi Ensurance too :)

I suppose the trouble you have is that a car is always refreshed and you'll never keep up.

I too like the dash but also like to keep unto date where I can and have the freshest version where possible.

Just annoying we waited as long as we all have only to have a model thats unto date for 6-12 months. My dealer said they aren't announcing a new A4 this year (they are told in advance which ones are being announced), but then again I shouldn't ever trust a car dealer.

I'm in exactly the same boat. What I said i'd do is call back and give my registration again to ensure they have it correct on their system, but i've not done that as of yet. At the end of the day your call is recorded and you gave all the correct information, it's their fault if you're not insured correctly.

My advice would be to call back, get them to check.

let me know how you get on if you do. I dont really want to rock the boat or encounter a fee when i went to the end of the earth to get them to override every detail, i probably made around 10 calls all in all and i had to get them to change it 3 times when the certificate came through with a wrong detail on, its as near as damn now, just missing the 35... but then i think, how many people who dont know about cars in any detail would even know that the '35' part is missing, i told them every detail i had so it has to be all good.. but i'd be interested to hear what they say if you call back. :)

Thanks Ant, going to try and run that through their system first thing and see if I can at least get coverage through the weekend while I finalise my insurance elsewhere. Annoying thing is that most insurance companies have no idea how to classify the car so we're probably not getting the best quotes from the few that do.

I've just ran comparison for the 35 TFSI 150 Auto again and now that more insurers are recognising the reg the prices are almost half what they were a week ago!! WOW! ***... think i will ring my insurer after all and ask them to run the reg lookup rather than have it manually underwritten... never buying a car thats a brand new model again, at least not taking one of the first deliveries anyway.. grr

I'm not too worried about the refresh. The MY19 has the new style rear with the better looking exhaust and a better looking front than the car that I ordered. If we hadn't have to wait and i had the old style single tailpipe then I might be more annoyed. My biggest disappointment is the technology in the current A4. Whilst its cool to have the virtual cockpit, you can tell that the MMI has been around a while and its starting to feel dated. My 3 year old Skoda had a touch screen yet my new Audi with "tech pack" doesn't?

Yeah bud, still not had documents yet. Hoping they can sort them out this week. Did yours come in the post or email?

I went in to the dealer to sign them but I suppose that's different if doing via a 3rd party leasing company. Apparently lease's are treated differently from PCP and have to get pre approved by Audi before releasing them... which can take a little longer. From signing the docs, Audi usually take 48 hours to provide final approval to allow pickup.

I've just setup the 5 day insurance. (note the £500 excess though). The car (A4, TFSI 35, manual, BLK Edition) wasn't on the system so after they checked with the underwriters they had to put it as the diesel version, but I've been assured this is all ok and notes have been made on the account.

Also, the full year quote provided was very reasonable.

Just topped up (2.0 tfsi 190 s tronic MY19) petrol, i get a range of 335-340 miles for a full tank. Is this normal for 2.0 tfsi? And is everyone else the same? 54 litre tank as standard

If you've not long collected I would expect it to improve. When I tested the A5 SB that had already run in with the same engine 40 MPG seemed easily achievable.

When I got my Q3 I was seeing 30-35 to begin with (this time of year) and it balanced out around 40-42. I don't have a light foot ;)

When the A5 arrives, for my journeys I'm hopeful it will do 450 to a tank... wishful thinking perhaps but a target none the less.

This is re-assuring to hear. I've just got the 2.0 TFSI 150 and finding the mpg is pretty poor at the moment but the traffic in Bristol isn't helping much. I managed 38 last night on the way home which was about 9 miles motorway at 60pmh and a couple of miles of ring road at rush hour. If I can get it above 40 on my commute i'll be happy.

I tested in milder conditions and found the economy very similar to my Q3 (which is diesel albeit quattro) so I remain hopeful, all of my Audi's have experienced woeful economy in anything less than 10 degrees to be honest. Reading on here it sounds like 35-45 is the normal range depending on volume of town driving for the 2.0 TFSI, I doubt there's much difference between the 150 and 190 on a normal run.

This time a year many devices are being used within a car that could affect the mpg this time of year. Yet mine is still achieving around 30-34mpg urban.

I am well peed off now.

I have just had this email from the Audi dealer I have arranged the lease with:

Please find attached Audi Finance documents for the Audi A4 Avant 35T FSI (150PS) Black Edition STronic in Manhattan Grey that you’re purchasing from Brighton Audi.

Your A4 is now physically with us so as soon as we have signed documents returned in the post, I can arrange delivery to you.

The car has been registered on a 68 plate despite my express wishes to them that it was delayed for a 19 plate.

The date of registration (5th Feb) is the date they are using as the date that the 1st months payment is based from ie 5 March despite me not having the car yet. I can't pick it up till sometime next week as I have my company car to sort out and don't want to pay for two leases at the same time. Does this mean my 3 year lease has started and I'll have the car less than 3 years.

The initial payment is shown as £4855 with no explanation in the email regarding this being an error yet they have asked me to sign the docs and return with that payment on.

Lastly the dealer is 3 miles away. Why are they delivering it. What happened to the "reveal" at the show room. Can I request to pick it up from the dealer.

Offered
Service and maint £16.34 per month
Service, maintenance and tyres £24.36 per month

But I have a free service courtesy of Audi for delays etc. and as I will be on Flexible service schedule and may only need 1 service after 2 years does it make sense?

I'd be signing NOTHING and having a trip down to the Dealer's, PRONTO!

Can they register it on a '68 plate before you've signed the docs? I would've thought you'd have to sign all the docs before any ball starts rolling?

Anyway, that really is a poor show on the Dealers part - especially if you've specifically asked for it to be reg'd on a '19 plate.

I've no idea how leases work, but that can't be right about you starting to pay for it when you haven't got it, surely?

Yep it's really disappointing. I'm going in tomorrow and will update then. :sly:

I was also a bit annoyed about the registration, but I guess as it's a lease we don't have much input. From my understanding the registration had to be done for them to do the paperwork for the car, the licence plate info will be on your paperwork like mine I assume? They should have given you a heads up though, I'd definitely not want to have two leases running concurrently.

As for the initial payment, mine was listed at somewhere in the region of £7,000 (LOL) on the paperwork, but I was assured by Audi that this does not have any bearing on what we have to pay. Our initial deposit (whatever was agreed) is all that's required of us. It's important to clarify this point though in writing (I have an email) just for the sake of clarity.

Mine also pushed for delivery, but I wanted collection so they agreed (though for 8:30am, a bit rough when I live nearly 200 miles away haha). I'm sure yours will to. I wonder if they'll just hand us the keys in the parking lot though! Hmm...

Thanks for that. After your response and two glasses of red I feel a bit better.

The paperwork could have waited till 1st March though Surely?

I read that a lease car should normally be delivered to the address on the finance paperwork. Not sure how true that is though but they are normally keen to deliver rather than let you collect. I've just had the £6011 shortfall on my initial payment drop into my bank account (from Audi) which is a relief as i was worried it wouldn't be in there before the direct debit comes out.

Mine is a lease and was delivered straight from the VW PDI centre

I'd recommend ringing your bank before the DD payment, as 6k dropping in and out again in quick succession is going to set some kind of AML trigger i'm sure. They may block the payment out. Audi didnt do it this way with me, instead i paid the dealership the contribution i had promised and they sent it all on from there including their 6k cont.

The Audi funds have sat in my account for two weeks now and are due to come back out on the 12th. Pity interest rates were not higher....

So FYI on the whole insurance thing, it was weighing on my mind so rang Direct Line just now to tell them that the reg now looks up the model exactly, and that i wanted it noted on the file that it's all bang on. Guy did it there and then and read it all back to me, no change to price or anything and it's all recorded too. I can finally put this out of my mind and enjoy the car!

I'd recommend everyone who had theirs manually underwritten just confirms that its all bang on. Especially if you were worried like me :)

How long didn't take for your reg to be recognised? Mine shows up on the gov car tax checker but not on the insurance websites.

I've just been on quotemehappy to update mine and the two options closest are 'A4 S LINE BLACK EDITION 35 TFSI 110' and the same but '150'. The 150 then only gives the option of the Avant and the 110 says 4 Door Hatchback. The 110 pumps my excess to £330 and charges approx £140 extra over the remaining 7 month term...whereas the 150 leaves the excess as is and the extra is only £38.

Baffling!!

It's a pain! This happens with all new models. It takes a while for all the databases to update for brand new models/variants.. I'm having similar issues with quotes for a new S3 (300ps as opposed to the older 310ps). All the compare sites are only showing prices from the Admiral group (bell, admiral, elephant etc) - so whilst they're on the ball, most other companies are lagging behind. For the 310ps S3 I'm getting 80 odd companies quoting, but for mine, only 6! - Obviously, this narrows the options somewhat!

This will quickly improve - but it's rubbish for people in our position. I think its just a case of sucking it up this year, and then things will be normal next year when the vehicles have all been put onto the database.:icon thumright:
