Just thought I'd post a warning for everyone as it's something that can easily be overlooked when in a rush!
We all know it's icy cold in the UK at the moment, yesterday I went out to the car at around 06.30 to find the drivers side covered in a very hard frost! I'd used Gummi Pflege all around the rubber door seals, as it says it stops the rubber sticking to the glass & door. Well I'm glad to say it does, the door opened with no sticking at all! However, once I'd opened the door, the window rather than just dropping the normal 7-8 mm was stuck in a state of up-down-up-down which was worrying! Thinking it was going to burn the motor out I just shut the door again!!! I then got de-icer down the side where the rubber meets the window, waited and tried again...again it was just up-down-up-down. Not thinking I just got in and slammed the door shut and drove to work.
Once in work I was talking to a mate who had an coupe a few years back, he said you are very lucky you didn't smash the window he'd smashed his doing exactly the same thing! He recommended that if it happens again to get an old plastic credit card or business car and just slide it between the glass and rubber and slide it along to break the ice before trying to open the door.
When thinking about it that makes sense, slamming the door with the window in the fully up/closed position isn't a good idea Fortunately I must have slammed it shut as it was in the down position!
