Hi All,

My first trip to the continent in my new S-Line will be to the French Alps in March. I have always carried snow chains (as per the French law), however my current set will not fit the 245/35/19 wheels.

So - looking at options. Some sites (including Audi) suggest that traditional snow chains not be used on this car, although others suggest that the low profile variants (7mm) are fine. Ladder type tracks look good, but as far as I know are not approved for use in France

Autosock now looks like an alternative (and cheap) and are now approved for use in France.

Opinions appreciated......

Used Autosocks in UK before and they are impressive! No issues with traction after installing.

Only downside is if you have a narrow gap between arch and wheel it can make it tricky to fit. My wife never managed it but I had no issues.

I've a set of these:

I like the look of those - and from the video they are clearly approved for France! In all likelihood they will never be used though as the French are pretty good at making sure the main routes to the resorts are clear. Thanks for the recommendation.

The Michelin ones look interesting!

Anyone interested and have Costco membership looks like they are selling online - not sure about in-store.

For anyone planning a ski trip to the Alps, and like me searching for chains for 245/35/19 wheels - I have bought these and they fit fine with no clearance issues.

The official line from Audi is that snow chains are not suitable for this car (I remember similar advice for my old B5 1.8T Quattro Sport) - but these 7mm chains are fine. At least I will remain on the right side of the snow chain police!

I used Snow Socks and they worked fine and were fitted easily in resort on the way out. Cheaper... too especially unopened ones on ebay.
