Got in my car earlier..whilst out..came up in display..start stop fault.i know theres loads of threads about this..have contacted dealer so they can look at it when its in for its 2 year service in dec....but what normally causes this..easy fix ect?????

I would be delighted if my Start/Stop never worked again, but in the meantime I routinely press the disable button every time I start the engine.
The feature in general is a good one and I like it on a manual car, but the way it activates on this car with a DSG gearbox is absolutely pathetic. :rage:
IMHO of course. :innocent:

Did it go away if you turned off and on again?
If mt memory serves me correctly it can just happen and go away for no apparent reason.
Also sometimes indicates completely unrelated faults.

This is just from my memory of reading this forum - never had any problems myself.

No..tried turn it on and of agian..but problem still there

Daz you don't do a lot of miles and with the cold weather recently you will have had the heating on, demist windows, lights etc. it could just be that your battery is low and causing the fault to flash up! Try driving up and down the motorway a while to get the battery charged up and then see if you're still getting the warning after that.

Ive had this fault twice now and has caused the car to be undriveable whilst the fault was present. It also brought my engine management light on. When the roadside assistance checked it the car was reportedly misfiring on cylinders 1 and 4 both times. First time Audi said there was nothing wrong with it (Because the fault was cleared before getting to them). This time i made sure the fault was not cleared and that it was towed straight to Audi and i'm waiting to hear what they find. Anyone experienced this same fault? Mines the 1.5 tfsi.
Thanks

3! not 1 ;)

Folks - Although I often manually switch s/s off via the button, it now seems to have stopped cutting in for no apparent reason. There are no obvious warning messages or fault lights on but it seems to just not be working? On our manual A1 it still works as expected but don't know whats wrong with the A3? I know its cold but I do not have the a/c or heated screen on and have read the user manual for ideas and it works on the A1 so puzzled. Any thoughts please

Do you get the icon up that says it hasn’t stopped the engine (start/stop with a slash through it). If so the mechanism is working but presumably has a reason for not stopping. If not then it would suggest that the car has a fault.

thanks - I forgot to say that bit - Yes that symbol comes up as the vehicle is stationary - I just don't know the reason for the s/s then not cutting in - it certainly worked until recently as I normally override it with the "off" button - its almost as is if it has got used to me switching it off manually and said sod it I am not going to work anymore - I have checked the parameters in the manual and cant see whats wrong!

My Start/Stop system has never worked since I bought my a3. I took it to my local garage, and was told it was potentially linked to a blocked dpf or a faulty battery. After a good few blasts on the motorway, it cleared the dpf but the start/stop system still does not work. I haven't looked into the battery, but often, on a cold morning it takes a few turns for it to fire up.
This may be a similar situation to you.

Thanks - only thing is mine did work until recently and I have a TFSI engine so no DPF

Possibly the battery? To be fair, from what I’ve read on this forums I think it stops working for a variety of reasons.
Your best bet is to hook it up to a computer and run a check on faults.

Mine had this recently and it turned out to be the battery. Apparently VAG have a problem with '9096' batteries. Anyway, after a week of waiting for a new one all is working well with my car and I have stop/start back again
