CMD and Flex are offering a Bench Mode, where you do not have to open the ECU to transfer the software.
You can also make a complete Backup and I have heard that TD1 flag will not increase, Checksum and CVN are untouched.

So what does that mean? Is the tuning invisible for Audi? Especially when I restore the backup?

Thank you in advance for your answer. Best regards from germany.

I was told by a reputable tuner that values are now stored in the gearbox and I can't recall, but another location, and as such even by completely changing the ECU Audi would still know if they looked deep enough.

I also heard one year ago, that some values are stored in the gearbox. Now someone told me that these were fake news. But I don't now what to believe.

It's a shame that no one here works for Audi so we can get a definitive answer. Imho they don't look when you go in for a service etc but may do if there is an expensive warranty issue for example. Tbf though if the engine goes after you are running +100hp then it's a bit off to expect Audi to pay for it.

For me the problem is. I have a leasing car. So if I go to the Audi service or bring my car back to Audi after 4 years, I don't want trouble :)

Guys, using this is simply fraud. I'd be careful. Just saying. And Audi isn't stupid, at some point they will figure it out.

Could never get my head around on the fact that people want to get all these gains out of there cars but hide it from Audi then when it goes bang expect Audi to repair it.

I have to agree - its like re-arranging the words: eating and having the cake...

Ah, come on! A potential £8k gearbox bill that either comes out of your pocket or Audi's?! And if it's a reputable tune, it'll more than likely be a defective part that has caused the problem, rather than the tune.

If it’s a unmodified car with warranty the full nine yards in the way of servicing then yes Audi’s pocket
But if you start to tinker and run maps blah blah blah and run into problems, then your pocket.

There’s so much data recorded now I imagine even in a td1 flag hasn’t come up and your mapped engine goes Audi will find out if the dig deep enough and as we’ve seen on here before they seem to do anything to avoid major warranty work

And we all know that Audi are masters at this game given that they have cheated millions of people with their emissions software! :)

Not if the parts are specced to work reliably at the stock power. I see Audi are selling parts for tge ttrs and r8 now....mostly spoilers and body kit though....it’s through Audi sport

I said more than likely. But I stand by my comment that the engine and drivetrain will be built to take much more than stock power and when things go wrong it is more often than not (but not always) due to a faulty part rather than the tune.

True I agree but Audi sees you’ve run more then stock and you’ve not a leg to stand on harsh but true we all know it

Probably not with Vagcom but now they have ODIS which goes deeper .

this document was first released 18 months ago, maybe longer and the module in question connects to the ECU and manipulates can bus signals, were yet to have any reports of any DTUK customers fall foul of a TB1 code ... most probably as our boxes connect at sensor level rather than at ECU
