Q5 Warranty - Q5 Brakes

I have a 2 year old Q5 and out of the blue my brakes started making a thumping noise. Local garage I use said my Calipers are sticking and Discs are damaged. Bizarre for 30k miles.

Anyone know if Calipers are covered under warranty? I'd have thought they were not a 'consumable'. Thought I'd check before taking it into Audi?

I don't believe it...

Can you "FEEL" the "thumping noise?" Maybe this is typical as for other Audi drivers thinking warped discs when most likely the issue is brake-pad friction-material deposits on the brake discs - due to not braking 'hard' enough.

If yes I respectfully suggest you go and do 5 x 60mph to 10mph hard braking cycles and see if that resolves the problem. Do not bring the car to a 'stop.' Do allow the brakes to 'normalise/cool' afterwards. MAKE SURE to choose a zero/light-traffic road and/or a road where you've pull-ins to allow others to pass. Be safe...

I suspected the same thing and have done a few emergency stops from speed but to no avail.

The noise sounds like a flat.

I trust the mechanic I use, he said he's seen it a few times on Audi/VW at this age. It just seems ridiculous to be looking at Calipers at this age. Maybe he's wrong.

Callipers are certainly not a consumable.

I’d get it to Audi and let them deal with whatever is wrong.

Brakes are something I wouldn’t take a change with.

Surely, at 2 years old, your Q5 is still under warranty, so I’d be booking it in at your Audi dealer for them to take a look and fix the problem under warranty.

In the end I replaced the rear discs and pads - back to normal. Callipers were absolutely fine.
