New Audi A7 - Reviews?

I’ve just picked up my new A7 50 TDI and have to say the interior is something else. Huge improvement on my previous 2016 A7. One thing I don’t like is the new 8 speed gearbox. Very lurchy and cogs down the gears when you don’t want it too, way more than my old one.
No other issues yet but I’ve only had it 4 days.
A few images for comparison from old to new:

Looks sweet man. Congratulations!

The new car looks soo much more imposing and mean than the previous gen.

I’ve heard the gearbox has its issue, and I am hopeful that the TCU gearbox map sorts it

I've had mine since Friday now!

First thing is the gearbox is so slow to kickdown, takes atleast 2-3 seconds. I hope a gearbox tune will sort this.

The car says on my Audi and the Audi configurator that it is traffic jam assist? I've had a look all over Google and the manual on how to engage it but it seems it needs adaptive cruise control. But traffic jam assist is stated as a standard equipment. Bit confused

Had any luck with speaking to the dealers? Im 99% sure that it requires the tour package or something but i am not sure.

One thing I can’t figure out is on the lower screen there’s an image of each of the front seats. You can press the drivers one which has the haptic click and it then glows but doesn’t seem to do anything? Any ideas?

I'll try this on my way home

Don't quote me on this, but I believe if you hold it for 10 seconds it'll eject you James Bond style.

Okay so after owning my new A7 for a few days I definitely agree with you on the gears, it cogs down SO much! I'll get used to it eventually, that and the slow pull away that almost killed me at a roundabout over the weekend..

Brilliant car though :)

Agree about the lag on the gears. I’ve also had issues pulling out and nothing happening for a second or so then it’s 100mph up the road when it kick into gear. Frustrating. Audi what have you done to this gearbox!
Still no answers for the seat button from Audi either.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! :D

It's also dodgy when attempting overtakes, even around cyclists. Instinctively if the car does not accelerate after you put your foot down, you put it down further - hence when the engine actually registers what you've done you're already half way to full throttle and you launch

Yep. Have to say it’s the worst Audi gearbox I’ve had by a country mile.

It's a real shame.. I'm going to try and start getting in the habit of switching to the paddles prior overtakes, maybe then I'll notice the lag less.

Still does not solve the pull away issues from a stop... maybe Audi will release a tweak for the gearbox in the future.

No up in Cheshire mate.

Hi mate whats the ride like with the 21" wheels? Considering changing my S5 come July (lease is up and insurance costs and fuel continue to go skyward!) and with the mrs just getting the new A6 I might get the A7 tdi.

The ride on the 20’s with air suspension is OK... nothing great, 21’s with air would be slightly worse, 21’s on springs would be further worse

Hi I've come from a b9 A4 with 19s and then modified the a4 got it lowered with 20s. It's the same if not slightly better imo than the a4 with 19s compared to the A7s 21s, and 100x better than the lowered suspension and 20s.

Also the 21s set the car off very very nicely

The ride’s fine with the 21s. In the past I’ve had an A6 on 20s and this is no different in my opinion.

My A7 has springs on 21" wheels. Yes it is a little 'bumpy' but nothing you don't get used too.

DTUK do a gearbox flash that has received great feedback - goes a good way to improve it's behaviour. My S5 box has the same issues

I've got the 55, would've give got the 50 but read the gearbox was a little sluggish. Loving the interior and 340 horses!

How is the power on the 340? I really wanted the 55tfsi

Have got it on my 50tdi, have had if for a month now and in my opinion is worth the money, it picks the right gears at round abouts and kicks down much better than before

Much depends on what you're driving, my previous was a 245bhp A6 quattro tdi and this feels so much smoother and more powerful. I've put my foot down a few times and it goes like a rocket, you wait for the lag during gear change but it's not there! Amazingly quick.

Tuning box will take the 50tdi to 330bhp
My insurance is high enough as it is , would love a tunning box but my insurance would go up even more. Plus the fact that I've also got a cupra290 so in reality I don't need more power from the A7, I just didn't want another diesel. But it is what it is!

with quote me happy my insurance stayed the same with the tuning box and full Milltek. With Churchill it went up 61 over the year. Not too bad.

That's lucky!! They want 500 quid extra. Guess it's my age haha

Hi,
If anyone does need any help with insurance for a tuning box, re-map or chip then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

Really nice car. I got the 55 instead of the 50 because of the doubts around diesel policy.
Awesome car and very smooth and quiet.
Can’t quite workout if it has turbo or is supercharged. I can hear a faint whine like a supercharger when I put my foot down...

It would be a turbo, uses the same engine as the current S4/5 I believe. I wanted a a petrol for this very reason but ended up with a diesel haha
