Hi all.

I will be going France in a few weeks in my B8.5 S4.
I’ve found the KPH setting but looking into adjusting the xenons.

I have found the headlight converter function in the exterior lights settings but it’s greyed out and says unavailable?

Anyone else had this.

Thanks.

I have that option on my A6 but via Carista or vcds, not in MMI.
Does it not makes your beam range shorter?

Some cars have a small leaver inside the headlamp housing which either switch beam cut off to the other side or make it flat

The option is in the MMI just weird how it’s there but not available to select.

My car is a 62 so one of the first B8.5s so maybe it wasn’t available then but the softwares been updated?

Typically this change flattens the beam and removes the section of light that shines towards the LHS kerbside/roadside.

You should ask an Audi dealer about this, I think that it was only on much older cars with HID that a lever could be reached that moved a shutter, my old 2000 VW Passat 4Motion had that - but my dealer and VW UK knew nothing about that, luckily I found out on the internet!

I’ve been through the manual and it just states about turning the function on in MMI as I have xenons but it won’t let me turn the function on to automatically dip the left.

Worst case I’ll just get some beam benders but seems unnecessary if I can do it via the onboard.

Unfortunately that is what I did to my 2000 VW Passat 4Motion that had factory fitted HIDs, very annoying when I later found that there were shutters - but that car only had HIDs on the dipped beam.

Lots should have changed in the intervening 12 to 13 years since my unsatisfactory experience as few Passat B5s had HIDs, whereas many B8.5 A4s do.

To enable greyed-out option in MMI (headlight converter) you will need VCDS.
Try:
Code:
[09 – Cent. Elect.]
[Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 4
Bit 6 - Travel Mode (0 = inactive) Change Bit 0 to 1

OBDeleven can do this as well if it just needs the codeing done.

Use the VCDS map to see if anybody around you can help.

Well, I believe I’ve fixed the issue.

Turns out I’m 26 going on 70. Oops.

Just had a look and the option now wasn’t greyed out and I could activate the headlight conveyor.

Turns out the lights need to be on for it to be turned on.

Surely I’m not the first to do that.

Thanks for posting the solution, easy trap to fall in to!
When headlamp converter is "on" you will see a message displayed with the ign.

The newer the car, the more useful features it has. About 3 years ago, my wife and I also decided to go on a trip. She always wanted to see the Eiffel Tower, and I decided to fulfill her dream. I know that Europe has right-hand traffic, so before I went, I installed headlamp converters, and for a good reason. In my country, headlamps illuminate mostly the left side of the road. If you drive in Europe with these headlamps, you will definitely blind motorists, and it can lead to an accident.
