New S3?

Hello, long time no speaky.

I'm looking at (maybe) getting an S3, but this WLTP malarkey is proving to be a PITA. No online brochures available that I can find, the Audi configurator seems to be hamstrung with several options missing and lightly used cars seem to be in short supply because ordering new is a bit 'ard. Any tips on getting a good deal and any idea where I can get hold of an up to date brochure?

Another consideration: should I wait for the next A3/S3 which may be just around the corner?

Nothing much has changed to be honest. Engine has dropped 10PS, but only lost 0.1 sec as a result of increased torque. Has a GPF.

Alloy wheel changes and some other very minor changes.

Prices are very strong on lightly used/ex demo because of the almighty mess that is WLTP.

I’ve not seen a brochure for the post WLTP S3 and I’ve also no idea when and how long the order process will take.

What I do know, though, is that there are massive discounts available on the current 8V models and there will be pretty much ZERO discounts on the next model A3/S3. Also the next model S3 will be a fair while off yet!

Torque is the same as the s Tronic 310 model, only the previous manual had less

As above when researching my recent order I decided that the new one won’t be here until late next year and even then discounts will be minimal.

I got 19% discount on list price for a Black Edition with Tech Pack. Was told by all to expect April delivery unless they had matching spec already in a build slot.

The torque increase is an error allegedly as they just copied the RS stats across and forgot to change the torque figure. 10ps less will make no difference at all in the real world though.

personally i wouldn't be buying a new S3 now with the new model A3 around the corner. Why not look at a run about until the new S3 arrives?

New s3 at least 2 years away. Next a3 will be end of this year if we are lucky but more likely next year. S/rs variant will at least be a year after that.
There’s always gonna be a new/better one around the corner so if it fits the bill now why not just get one.

For me 7 years into the model cycle is a bit late to join the party when thinking about buying a brand new car. I would hang on personally, but each to their own.

All the bugs should be at least ironed out by now so should be the most reliable.

In addition to the above comments as someone who has just ordered one, it might be 7 years into the model cycle but one of the better times for discounts when new model coming soon, as well as the fact that model would have had various updates (facelift etc) over the years. The only downside with the S3 for me was the WLTP changes but cant have it all. Some people though I can understand want the latest stuff asap but you will pay for it.

Thing is the 8v doesn’t look dated and the tech doesn’t look dated. still a good looking car in my opinion but I own one so slightly biased.

Agree mate, is all relative. That is high apr

I wouldn't say high, it isn't amazing but as noted the discount/apr will play off each other. In my spec and figures the higher apr/discount means slightly cheaper monthlies in comparison with lower apr/discount but not by much. Of course the smart thing to do would be to push for larger discount and then pay off with either cash or personal loan (if you can get the low 2.9% ones).

Absolutely, I have always liked them and they do still look modern and hold their own.

True, in terms of bang for buck now is certainly a great time to buy. As someone who has just sold his S3 i wouldn't hesitate in recommending the car, it is an immense motor and I am generally sad to see mine go. In terms of cabin quality nothing else is comparable in the price bracket. I hope you enjoy your S3.

What did you replace the s3 with? Curious what I should be looking at next. Apologies if I missed it in another post

I replaced it with....drumroll.....

Nothing :). I'm moving up to Edinburgh so will be in the city centre, plan is to just use Uber and or Zip cars for hire as and when we need a car. Maybe in a few years time if I have the money i'll but myself an oldish 911 or an RS4 avant. Won't be for a while though. :(

Parking is horrendous and not cheap in Edinburgh so probably not a bad idea.

Fair enough mate and too true. Best case is to get the big discount, and settle finance within 2 weeks via another means (cash, cheaper loan etc) as Audi will obv. Only give the deal based on their finance and linked to contribution.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by this? Say you get a 4yr PCP and paying £450 a month. Surely a bank loan to pay off the total amount payable (per the agreement) over the same period would be a lot more expensive? Just curious how this would work.

Yeah I think so too, unfortunately. Certainly in built up metropolitan areas anyway. And it's only going to get more prevalent once we have autonomous cars, which is probably only a couple of decades off, tops.

You are right, it would be more expensive so is not for everyone (me included currently). The reason why many of us go pcp, is because a) want a new car every few years b) allows you to get more than you could potentially afford, as pcp has the balloon payment at the end of term (or most p/x).

All I was pointing out was that you can get the deal with Audi including discount and Audi/dealer contribution, take their finance and then settle within 2 weeks then you don’t pay interest. Many on this forum go this route.

My next car I will seriously consider:

A) leasing
B) buying used and self financing

Wasn't having a go mate, was just curious the rationale behind this. As you say guess you'd go longer period on the loan and that amount covers the finance amount (excluding the interest payable) so you'd save as a loan would be lower %? Thanks for the reply.

Do you have to settle within 2 weeks? Say you didn’t, and you take a bank loan after month, then when you settle your finance you’re only losing the interest for that one month you’ve had it, which is no biggy.

It's all relative mate if you buy late into the model run you'll get a larger discount than at any other time in the model build run but you'll also suffer worse depreciation than folks who got their cars earlier, same applies to the forth coming all new A3/S3 early adopters will get little in the way of a discount but depreciation will be far less as the market won't be flooded with them so they'll retain higher residuals come trade in time
Hatches depreciate more than the equivalent saloons as there cheaper initially and far more common
But in general the A3 holds its value very well over 3 years . Condition dependant of course

Mate, I know you weren’t, it was a very fair question I wasn’t very clear to start with

Probably mate, but as far as I was aware cancelling within 14 days means no interest is chargeable as cooling off period

Well, I didn't get an S3 in the end, but something a bit more left field. And taller.

66 plate RS Q3 in Ascari Blue. Collect it on Monday hopefully.

Very unusual colour. It's what really caught my eye. I guess you can pay lots and have it on any Audi, but I think the RS6 and RS7 were the only others to have it as an option. It stood out against all the black, white and grey cars all over the forecourt.

I've got a factory order on a MY19 S3. I think the facelift is going to age better than the next gen cars. The new A1 is ugly and cheap looking and the A3 will most likely be based off it
