Hi everyone, looking at getting an Rs3 soon i believe its classed as the 8v model and PFL. Just looking for some advice. Im coming from owning a limited edition impreza for 8 years an have always liked the RS range. My only requirements were 4wd and fast lol cant see myself going near anything thats not 4wd after having the impreza.

Anyway im new to audi's so what should i be looking out for? What are the common things to go wrong on them? Looking at a sportback and budget is around 35k, car needs to have dynamic pack, black pack, roof rails and pan roof, a hard spec to find but im in no rush and willing to wait on the right car. Obviously i know good service history is a must, probably wouldnt go above 35k for mileage but i only do about 4k a year.

Things i have picked up so far, squealing brakes is this a common issue and do new pads sort it?

The pan roof can be creaky?

Wheel hubs rusting along with the exhaust tips?

Cheers for any replies

Brakes are terrible and a weak point on the car. Cheap to sort if you are so inclined.

Not so sure on Pano roof. Heard a few issues but nothing too much so I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Hubs rusting is my ultimate pet hate. Again, you can sort very cheaply and use hammerite to paint.

Other than that, it's a great car to own and sounds bonkers!

PFL is a future classic imho, plenty fast enough and sounds amazing esp. if sports exhaust is decatted.

I have a RS4 now and still miss mine :-/

also whats the deal with the brakes when changing the pads? im reasonably handy at general stuff like that but have been told you cant change them due to an electronic sensor?

again cheers for the replies

TX if you were given the choice between your RS3 and RS4 both fresh from factory - what are you picking?

Good question!

Maybe if doing big miles the RS4? But the sound of the RS3... :yahoo:

I'd say the 4 just pips it but it is really really close, bit more aggressive looking and slightly faster. £ for £ though the 3 is a bargain I think, that engine really is incredible. Fingers crossed Audi keep using it despite the CO2 net closing in.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201901053665820?

was looking at this one, but not so sure of it now few alarm bells. That registration is for maidstone and thats in clydebank, i find it weird it has maide it from maidstone to clydebank with 1 owner? And only a 1 month warranty??

so yeah not as keen on it now.
Audi warranty will be run out by now (assuming 3 years) so that 1 month will be their warranty imho. 1 previous owner so 2 owners in reality.

if im paying that money for a car im expecting more than a 1 month warranty, 6 month would be the minimum.

It has to have a minimum of 3 month warranty from trader as far as I know.

When I bought mine in October it had one month left of warranty so the dealer rang Audi and put another year on for £600 (at his cost) worth it if you ask me

I wouldn’t worry about, personally. I live in Lancashire but bought my 8P in Cambridge and my 8V in Cheltenham. They are rare cars, and if you have a specific spec in mind then you will end up travelling. Like TX says, two owners can easily see a car move from one end of the country to another.

I had a T-Reg Scoobi, my last non-Audi car. :) Been an Audi driver for 20 years, now...

Agree. I like my cars and have had some quite niche/specialist cars over the years. I've travelled all over the place to buy the right car, from the south coast, to Wales, the midlands and then to Doncaster Audi for my RS3. It was then across to Ipswich for the TT!

I struck lucky when buying my RS3 - right colour, right shape and all the optional extras I could have wished for and it was 40 miles away down the M40 lol. Higher mileage than I would have liked but the price I paid more than made up for it :thumbs up:

I’ve just travelled 110 miles to collect my new rs3, distance doesn’t really matter, it’s only 1 day of travelling.

Exactly this... a whole day of traveling to get the right car is 100% worth it for the potential years of ownership :icon thumright:

wasnt sure myself so googled it, there is actually no number they have to give, can be zero months or 100 months

Learn something new every day. I always thought a pukka dealer would have to offer a decent warranty and a private sale would be totally different.

I wonder how many of us have come from a Scooby to an RS3? I'm another one, mine was a W reg STi wagon.

Yeah, I also used to enjoy Scoobynet til the muppets (proper muppets) took over! :)

Small-ish, high power, AWD. Only Subaru, Mitsubishi and Audi were playing this game in the 90s. The Lancer was totally bonkers with (IIRC) 6000 mile service intervals. So, moving on from a Scoobi pretty much naturally took you to an S3 or similar when I was driving one.
