Hi guys

I have a 66 plate facelift S3, done just shy of 14k - been in for a service and Audi have said the pads are 70% worn so due for change!

What’s everyone fitted? OEM or aftermarket?

Cheers

Interested in this too. I'm at 29k or something and I think the pads are getting low, at least on the rear, don't know about the front and not really sure how to properly measure..

Crew Audi Parts on the forum quoted the below but didn't specify what they were.
Front pads £96.00
Rear pads £54.00

On eBay I saw these Brembo ones: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-An...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

and EBC redstuff - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-RedS...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Both come in around £110 but I aint got a clue with what people have etc :)

I use Golf GTi Clubsport S disc's and pads all round on my S3, they're a good mild upgrade, whilst still giving great cold bite, durability and don't cost the earth.

In the past I’ve used ferodo ds2500 and they were really good on and off track. Cold bite was good and no squeal from the pads.
For oe spec if you aren’t looking for an upgrade I would go with TRW cotec range. I put these on my last a6 and they were better than the factory pad and the main thing that did it for me was there was so much less brake dust compared to the oe pad. Wheels only needed a quick pressure wash instead of a half hour scrub. Used trw in many cars now and the quality is always very high and they always come with all the fittings, shims, caliper bolts and sensors. Very reasonable priced too.

I'd go Ferodo but I work at the original site where it all began so I'm a little biased. Are they normal MQB pads for the S3?

I’ve been recently recommended EBC by another S3 owner but just unsure really

I’m not necessarily looking for an upgrade as such, but something with a slight improvement on OEM would be preferred if it didn’t come with any downsides such as squeal and worse cold bite - so the TRW is something I’ll be looking into for sure!

Unsure on what pads to use but I'd get them checked elsewhere. Personal experience of Audi lying out their ***** when it comes to stuff like this.

Not sure if these have moved on since I had a set on my old car that I tracked but I found they needed a bit of heat in them before they were at their best and they did squeal when cold. Bang for buck they were good and relatively gentle on the discs.
That was 8-9 years ago though so might might have moved on a bit since.

I’m using DS2500 and think there really good with no problems.

Things may have changed now, but many many moons back when I was in my early 20's I had the light come on to say about the pads being low, they wanted a ridiculous amount to replace the sensor that once used was broken and also to knock off the light on the dash. I just put a bit of tape over the light so you couldn't see it lol....the car was worth less than a grand and the sensor etc was well over £100 from memory.

But as for your pads, have you seen these £57.49?

I cut the connection off the old pad, trimmed the wires as far as I could and soldered the two wires together, a bit of tape after and that sorted it.

I believe so. Better make sure it’s the right ones for yours as there’s a million variants of pads. Easy way is look for your PR number in your service book.

I believe these are the ones, I will see if i can find a supplier local to me that sells TRW to make sure theyre COTEC otherwise theyre not going to be any different to OEM. I've got some deposits on my wheels from the OEM pads

I'm currently looking at same ones as we speak. What you got in the basket will thy do all 4 corners? Qty 1 each of front and rear. Does that mean both front and both rear?

I'd imagine each box would contain a set of 4 pads to do either the front or back. Easy enough just to look or ask before paying.

I would definently get a 2nd opinionI was told the same in January last year, however I got them checked by an independent Audi specialists who said they were fine. I then had the Haldex and s-Tronic service done in September at another main dealer, who also confirmed the discs still had plenty of life in them, but the pads were now worn. It seems “70%” worn is their favourite number looking on the forums as it seems everyone is told is this.

It’s a guess. They stick the camera behind the wheel for a peek and guestimate how much is left. They don’t even take the wheels off for service anymore. Wait till the pad wear indicator comes on the dash then change. That’s why it’s there. If I remember right it lights up around 70-80% worn.

Ended up changing the pads last month and to be honest they were very close to hitting the sensor. However the discs are still good, though according to one Audi dealership they were 70% worn a year ago. Day light robbery at it’s finest and I bet most people fall for it, especially the women as they won’t question it. I intend on doing the front discs on the next brake pad change. Skoda dealers to take the wheels off according to their site, and their prices are more reasonable for fixed price servicing, considering they use the same parts, just a shame they can’t update the DSS otherwise I would be using them instead. For example they charge 479 for cam belt and water pump change whereas Audi charge 649. Hard to believe how Audi get away with it.

I have just had the disks and pads changed front and back on my a3. It’s done 87k. 1st swap for the fronts and 2nd time for the backs. Also got the disk guards all changed also due to rotting. This time i went for pagid which can be looked up on eurocad parts. Went oem last time on back and they were rusted up after less than 30k

So, no brake pads have been ordered as I couldn’t decide...

Now have brake pad warning light on... so going to go OEM for time being, do I need to buy a new sensor with the new pads too?

Looking on eurocar parts they do pagid and Brembo, are these suitable OEM replacements - are the brembo worth the extra or just paying for a name?

Some of them come with sensors so check that. I know normally TRW comes with sensors , shims, bolts etc and quality is very high in my opinion. Once the sensor has been triggered they can’t be re used. Most of the time they break on removal anyway.
I would go with the Brembo. I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to brakes and tyres. As far as I was told pagid pads from Euro is their own branded white box stuff. Mate owns a garage and he said he wouldn’t use them which was enough for me.
