Hello,
I can't find any reference to my issue anywhere, so I'm wondering if anyone knows about it.
My '62 plate (8V) A3 sport behaves as expected except for one strange thing - the light console shows 3 positions (off, side, main lights) , no auto option, but if I turn the switch past main to quarter past, the message 'vehicle lights malfunction' appears after 10 seconds, although none of the (all working) lights change when switching to this position. The switch operation feels good, with a clean detent action. All the other buttons in the console work as expected. It's almost like it was built with a 4 position switch instead of 3.

You have "pushed" your light switch in with your knee. Turn the switch to off and then pull it out with your fingers. Once done it will not turn to the phantom position.

Oh.... I feel like a right numpty... I assumed that the 'inward' position was normal. for 3 years !
Many thanks, it's great to have such expertise available.
