all 8l's a3's and s3's had heated mirrors as standard, auto dipping wing mirrors were optional though (on SA/ZA spec models afaik)
So the ultimate mod (in this context), would be to have auto dimming and folding mirrors. The folding option, would be controlled by the remote central locking (easier to implement, more useful and cleaner looking in the car), which is what people have been looking for here, so how hard to add auto dimming too? If a group were going to do this, why not go the whole hog (if reasonable).
The auto dim mirror glasses are expensive, an auto dim rear view mirror should have an output to control the auto dim door mirror glasses. I got a USA spec b6 cabriolet black auto-aim mirror with compass for mine, it also has the auto light sensor built in.
Skoda superb puddle lights would also be a nice addition

I have auto dim rear view that I’m going to strip out. Does this mean the wing mirrors are auto dim?

Why are you stripping it out? Is it broke... I'll be on the hunt to get one for mine, as it had one fitted as standard, but it broke and was replaced by a basic mirror.

If you do an internet search on Mk4 Golf retrofitting auto folding mirrors you’ll find 4 or 5 different mirror options that will work, doesn’t have to be the Leon ones

These are the Leon facelift mirrors (different shape), not sure whether you can use them. I’m guessing at no as I haven’t seen anyone suggest them as an option, only the earlier square ones....

.I’d rather have the OEM install (manual selection with switch) so this is perfect. Already got the relay so just got to get connectors and give it a whirl (that’s if my mirrors have 3 connections rather than 2 when they arrive). I’m thinking the 3rd connection is the micro switch that can be transplanted from mirror base to base so should be able to do it.

The only thing I can’t work out from the wiring diagram is what the ‘Inter’ is on the left hand mirror, anyone got any ideas?

Apparently it’s identical to ours, just open it up and remove a stop inside, this allows it to have a second position after the right adjustment mirror position which is for folding. I’ve ordered a switch to dissect and test the theory.

If anyone is interested the ‘Inter’ referred to on the diagram is the ‘Safe’ signal.

I think you’ll struggle to do this mod and keep the aluminium housings unless you can find some of the original A3/S3 8L folding mirrors which are rarer than rocking horse sh1t...

The A4 B5 mirrors would take the aluminium housings but try finding a drivers side mirror that isn’t a stubby..... This was my first option, got a passenger side mirror but the drivers side ones in full size seem to be none existent.
And from what I've read they're a 2 wire system as opposed to the 3 wire system we would need (if fitting OEM styley).

wouldn't the motors / bases be swappable?
so if you get your hands on a motorized unit + all relevant boards/switches. Ditch the stumpy housing and switch all the good stuff into the regular sized housings?

I’ve read that the stubby mirrors were never available as auto folding (not enough room in the housings to get everything in)....which begs the question what in God’s name did they used to supply for the drivers side with a full size passenger auto folding mirror?!

Scrap that last comment, just found a power folding drivers side stubby mirror on fleabay but the mirror body & motor are all one piece so you couldn’t take the guts out and transplant into a full sized housing.

It must be doable with wing mirror guts that are still available if hazzy days can get the bits. Might be worth enquiring and playing dumb and see how they do it

I’ve just emailed them and asked if they can do it and still retain the aluminium housings, be interesting to see what they say....
To be fair they were helpful when I asked the mfsw they told me the part number I needed for the airbag and wheel and that you need to adapt the harness I told them I wanted to get the parts 2nd hand to keep cost down and them fit it which to be honest the headache I’m having with it now I wish I did ha

So......HappyDayz will supply and fit for £850 + VAT and transfer over the aluminium covers and glass (Mind you for a grand I bet I could source some of the original folding mirrors)

Is it electric folding had this with a seller they are electric heated and glass movement and they can fold if you push them but are they electric folding if you get me
