Hi guys

Haven't driven the car for about 3 days, went out yesterday and it stuttered when it started (assumed it was just because I haven't used it and it's been quite cold) and then the whole dash died. No lights at all, nothing was lighting up around the temp dials etc etc and the odometer and all the needles dead too.

The car still runs and the radio screen is lit up and I have a few of the warning lights on constantly, but thats it. Headlights, tail lights and signals all work fine and the car drives like nothing is wrong.

Any ideas on how I can fix it? I left it overnight hoping it would sort itself out but still not working today.

No idea but I would disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery and short the leads away from the battery with a spanner for a few seconds and then reconnect to the battery. There is also a fuse at the end of the dash that may have blown

Done that and checked the battery, battery is fine. Thought it may have been dying.

I've never shorted the leads before, sounds like a stupid question but I just touch either end of the spanner with the disconnected leads?

I'll check the fuses too cheers

yes use a spanner to make a circuit between the battery leads.

If any off that doesn't work , might be worth getting it scanned as you surely have an electrical fault somewhere .

Hi guys, it didn't work. Would a normal OBD scanner be able to actually find anything or will I need to take it to an Audi dealership?

I would use your scanner see what code/ s it gives you if any , check them on Ross-Tech ( google) if they are there your in luck if not then have a look at sites Vcd's section where you will find a map and you can send a member a PM and they eill usually do a autoscan for beer tokens then you can check the codes on Ross tech

Thanks mate, my cheap OBD scanner picked nothing up. I'll see if any of my friends have access to VCDS, if not I'll try on here cheers.

So as an update, went to a local garage who said they had Vagcom, turned up and the cable was with one of his guys on the road, he plugged it into his Snap-on diagnostic machine and it brought up the code "00532 - Supply Voltage B + Upper Limit Reached"

Even though the cluster had died it was still sending signals to the dash for the revs etc etc. So looks like the cluster needs repairing. I know this was an issue on the mk1 TT, as theirs goes all grainy and can lose pixels.

Can anyone recommend a place who repairs them? Or is there someone on here who does them?

If anyone has their old dead one and has had a replacement fitted, I'd like to give it a go fixing it to find the root cause.

I've found a place local to me, they charge £150-£175 + VAT to repair the cluster. I think it's £35 + VAT for them to test it to see if it can be repaired.
