Whiny Noise

Hello Forum Dwellers,

The S3 is making a bizarre noise as of late. A whirry sort of whiny noise that amplifies as I go faster/put my foot down on the throttle. Putting the S-Tronic into Neutral, the noise goes away.

Has anyone experienced this before and knows what it is? I've heard multiple suggestions from Audi now such as intercooler, or even more worryingly gearbox.
 
Mine has a whiny noise when I go faster but I think that’s my girlfriend.

You need a new girlfriend, if she is whining as a girlfriend imagine her as a wife ;)
My car is lovely quiet when I am the only one in it, that's the real reason I bought the wife her own car.

Odd noises you can replicate particularly in certain circumstances, take it to a professional.

Does it happen at certain revs? Reason being I had the same thing and it was the valves getting stuck when opening - like a loud whiny/tinning noise

Considering I saw a post from you saying you live in Cheltenham, I can completely understand why you have that problem.

Not sure. It seems to get louder the faster I go. What did you do to resolve your issue?

Also seem to be getting much worse MPG. Did you have that issue too?

Haha she’s not from Cheltenham, Cheltenham girls are far too high maintenance for me.

Got dealer to agree and fix under warranty, supposedly is a common issue. Did not notice any change in mpg though
