Hi all 1st time posting. I’ve recently had my 16plate tdi 150ps quattro remapped by a while known company
It done just over 30k miles mostly motorway. But I’m unsure if there is an issue there seems to be an intermittent smell it’s only happened 3 times since it’s been done. I don’t think it’s the clutch I’ve not noticed any slip. It’s running 196 bhp and 289 torque. Which I was told was well within spec for the clutch plz help if anyone’s got any ideas?

Hi Adi. Are you sure that torque figure is right? The stock 150ps has 340 Nm of torque so yours should have more than 289.

sorry it works out around 390nm torque. I’ve uploaded the dyno graph

Touch wood I’ve had my revo stage 1 since last June and it’s been fine. As for performance revo claim to get around 190 with 310/320 torque.

Cheers for the the feed back. Maybe I’m being paranoid expecting it to go wrong. The smell it’s had has only happened a few times over the 3weeks it’s been done and I’ve pushed it hard loads of times. I’ll just keep an eye on it n hopefully it will stop.

It may be getting hotter when it's regenerating. There will probably be a greater build up of soot in the DPF. Only a 20% increase in torque and it looks pretty flat so the car should easily handle that,

If you have VCDS maybe log lambda and see if its running too rich?
If you log rpm and lambda that would tell you if the soot is too much and blocking the filter causing more regen.
Full sweep from 1500 to 4k is enough

Thank you. I’ll contact the company that did the map for me they was really helpful, I don’t have VCDS to check. It’s only happen 3 times in the 3week it’s been done each time it did I couldn’t make out the smell and it didn’t last long. I did contact who did it they ask if it carried on if I could try and work out th smell. I’ll let them check it it over cheers mate

Just an update I’ve not had any smells sence it was remapped and there’s been no problem with the car
Your first post states it had a smell 3 x after the remap ????
Anyhoo, if you do short journey it may be the regen kicking in, as @desertstorm has eluded to, they do smell a bit when the regen is happening but if your giving it the beans then it should keep the DPF running a bit cleaner.

Cheers it’s been sweet since the 1st few weeks n the early smells was only noticed while driving hard around town. It’s always done 300-400 miles a week from new. And must have need the cobwebs blowing off I’ve not smelled out as obvious since but have smelt the regen when parking.

I had a custom remap on mine, took it to 187bhp, so not pushing it too hard.

Its a different car!!

How are folks finding remaps on the 150 8v??

Tempted :)

Snap. I've put it off as mines due its cam belt and water pump. And nearly at 60k miles and Dno weather the clutch could handle the extra torqure

Was it a manual or dsg??

Its manual, 2014 plate.
Had it done at 75K, now on 110K, better all round.

I also had my old A3 8P done, from 170bhp to 210bhp.
When I bought the 8V, I gave the 8P to my son, 320K still no problems. (2010 plate)

Really tempting to get a remap done on my 1.6L TDI.. This is quite convincing

So I should be alright engine wise. I don't hammer it but I do like to have the off bit of fun but never rev last 4K tbh.

Had mine remapped a few months ago best thing I've done to the car since I've owned it

I'm still thinking of a tuning box for mine so no TD1 fault code haha just a lot of money for 40hp or so

I bought a tuning box for mine first, wasted £150, it was rubbish.

My remap by "tuning lab" in Devon included a dyno/rolling road and proper before and after graph, best £250 I spent.

(not sure what you mean about fault codes, I have none, both my A3s and VW T5 have been mapped, no problems, the T5 goes like a rocket!!)

If you have warranty on your car and you need some work doing on it and you send it in, your car will flag up a TD1 fault code and create a permanent mark against your car and they'll refuse to perform any warranty work on it. If you've sent in for a service, it'll already have that mark against it, they only tell you that they know when you try and get warranty work done it. That's the only reason why I've not remapped mine to be honest

I dont have warranty left, so I can sleep safe lol

I have done 1000s of miles with the remap, no problem and feels like a difference car.

My chipbox went tits up, the car wouldn't start, basically it was telling the car it was very hot and it wouldn't start.
Took ages to figure it out, removed the box, all good.

Never again.

Ah that's fair enough. Glad to hear you've had a good experience with your remap! And yeah, that's the downside to tuning boxes.. all they do is trick the ECU. Get a cheap tuning box and you're bound to run in to issues I suppose :(

Haha no worries, out of warranty anyway. I'm kinda tempting the idea of changing car if I don't get it remapped.

I’ve had my revo stage 1 for 18 months. Totally got accustomed to it now but initially the diff was night and day. The extra torque is fantastic. You’re looking at around 300-310 which is more than a golf r by comparison. BHP looking at around 190. Stick in some V power diesel too!

Haha, the car I wanted costs too much on insurance so I think I'll have to look into a remap. Thanks!

Mine is an stronic and honestly it’s completely different. The torque is immense compared to stock. From a stop beats a 2.0 by a car to 50.. (not clinically tested) I’m sure overall the bigger engine wins out but.. at 60mpg over my commute I can’t complain one bit!

Mine's an s-tronic too so that's good to know. I've always felt that the torque was lacking immensely at higher speeds, so a little boost there would be nice. You're getting me hooked now haha, I'll have to find somewhere to remap it soon

No joke it’s not a little torque.. it’s a rocket compared to stock!

Best money I’ve ever spent! Although the dynamic taillights are pretty cool!
How much did they pay and which one did you get? I've heard of a few such as DTUK, TDi Tuning etc. And you retrofitted dynamic taillights as well?
