How many miles to expect from P zeros

Come on Jassy ... none of those are unexpected costs, surely you planned for them.
LOL road tax £450 though ... only £280 for my RS3
Plus that little lot all combined came to less than your voodoo paint upgrade :icon thumright:

car went with 13,600 on the clock and 5mm tread front and rear
Your tyres only wore around 2.5mm in 13600 miles? That almost defies belief!!
I'm assuming the majority of those miles had to be motorway and possibly they weren't the original tyres the car was supplied with?

Whenever threads like this come up there's always people that seem to get amazing life out of their tyres. :openmouth:

What's motorway miles got to do with wear as all my mileage has been done on the M8 and the M80/M74

This car is far more expensive to maintain than my last S3 mate it's getting beyond a joke now

Could always sell it if it’s causing you this much hassle and get a Audi a2

Original tyres and about 80% motorway miles and TBH never thrashed the car at all

It was an S3 you had....and on P Zeros?
I have never thrashed my car and always drive with mechanical sympathy, but my tyres have still worn approx. 1mm in 2300 miles(assuming 7.5mm new).....which is a massive difference to yours.
Very well done to you of course, but I just cant get my head around that.

Yes was on Pirelli's. TBH I did not measure the tread myself but was a comment from the regional group buyer who inspected the car before sale. Maybe they were not measured with a gauge and could have been 3.5 to 4mm

That sounds like my old commute and even then I got 25k + out a set of good year asy2 on my a6 2.0 tdi. Traded it in with same set of tyres with 3-4mm still on it. That car had an easy life compared to my current s3

Porkers insurance was only £500 based on £10k miles and I am down Sarf

Aye OK but yuv 20s on yer agate porker
That'll be at least £200 bangers just for a front tyre and at least £300 for a rear ?

Checked tonight and my P-Zeros’s are 5mm front and 6mm rear after 6500 miles.
Looks like I’ll have similar wear to you at about 10k @jassyo06

Just off the phone with tyre place... .he mentioned RO1"s what's the difference between them and AO1"s

Hello buddy, I was told that the A01, A02 variety are for Audi cars that are NOT quattro. The R01 & R02 are for quattro cars. R02 having the bigger rim protector being the only difference between R01 and R02 that I have noticed.

Black circles is £111 each fitted.
Only reason I know is I was cleaning and putting away my summers yesterday and found a nail on one of them. Annoyingly tyre has only covered around 70 miles and fitted 2 weeks ago

Gutted. I had exactly the same happen on my old car with a new set of tyres. It was an arrow shaped piece of flint off my driveway rather than a nail. It was pretty much on the tyre wall like yours so not repairable, literally the day after I had the set of 4 fitted. Really annoying :(

Well that's strange......because the factory fit tyres on my 2018 S3 are marked A01.

^^ maybe your S3 is like mine in that it isn't currently a quattro.........until Audi fit a new haldex pump!

I got just over 10k miles on my P-Zeros. I put on Good Year Assys and have done 15k miles so far and still have a decent amount of tread left. I got over 20k on Assy's with my old A4. I'll not touch P-Zeros again personally

At least I got till spring to save up for a new tyre.

Just relaying what I was told when I was looking to replace my fronts, Running the Ao2 won't cause issues, I just don't believe they are the tyres the car was developed on. It is something to do with the reinforcement I believe.

I wasn't doubting what you were told. :innocent:
I've just noticed you have an RS3....and it's possible that car requires a different specific fitment of tyre to the S3.

It may well be, when I gave them my reg it had 4 variants of P Zero tyre that 'fit' my car, and he said the R01 & R02 were better reinforced for the quattro system and the R02 had the bigger rim protector.

I got about 21k out of my set of p zeros which included a few laps around the Nürburgring- I’m now on Michelin PS4s and they are a massive improvement over the Pirelli with regards to grip, comfort and road noise

Considering the track use which will have scrubbed off some tread that is truly amazing life you got from your tyres.
I bet you don't get anywhere near that mileage from the PS4S.
If I still have my car when it's time to change all 4 tyres I will probably go for Good Year Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3.

My car has done 10,600 miles, and it's never been driven hard and the tyres at the front have around 3mm of tread left the rears have 4 mm, so l feel as if they need changed very soon
I'm running P-Zero's on 18's and I'm just approaching 13k miles, current wear looks like I might get another 2k miles out of them.
I would say my driving style is perhaps a little more 'varied' compared to yours but with very little motorway miles.
Hope that helps!

Are you gunna switch? I'm considering the jump to Pilot Sport 4 S when I need to change them. Black Circles have £40 off when you buy 4 at the moment

I don't like Michelin tyres my Mrs has 4s on hers and they're actually quite noisy considering it's a small tyre 225/40/17 and they look guff ie the sidewalls and have virtually no rim protection where the pirelli P zeros look ****** awesome.. . Sucker for the looks of them and have great rim protection, l will see how the wear on the second set fairs then decide to What tyres l fit next

That was kind of where I was at with the looks as well to be honest, everything in comparison just looks a little boring and now with what you've said regarding road noise I think I'll stick with the P-Zero's. I certainly don't feel like I need better performance from them so far.

I'm pretty confident you will find they wear exactly as your first set - mine did !
The rim protection is quite staggering though isn't it.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2 x types of P Zero Sports listed for my car at Halfords?

The AO means Audi specified as OEM fitment. The other is generic Pirelli for any car with XL requirement. Up to you if you want to spend the extra 5 quid

Thanks but that’s my question, is there any difference (apart from one having “AO” on the tyre wall? )
Wondering if the generic would be slightly harder
Halfords prices seem cheap enough compared to Black Circles

Yes it has been reported that sometimes the AO versions have better rim protection than just the standard tyres...

The AO tyres has been tested on Audi’s and everything from the compound to rim protector can be different.
On my first Audi the oe tyres lasted 23k on the front and I replaced it with the same tyres without Ao and the second set lasted 15k so compound must be different. If you look carefully some of them have different rain, economy and noise ratings.

My first set of P-zeros lasted just over 23k, for this reason alone I replaced them like for like. However the second set barely lasted 8k, I will never put a set of P-zeros on the car again.

That's not good Chris :frown:, what did you replace them with?
