My sunroof has dropped about 5-10mm and motor is just making a noise I’ve tried pushing it up from the inside and no luck :(

Anyone have any advice before I put it into a garage cba to start taking headlining down myself etc

Thanks

Ise the manual wind spanner thing that is behind the fuse box on the end of the dash to close it

I’m guessing this is a 3 door as the Sportback sunroof panel is only capable of moving up and towards the rear?
Hopefully it may just be the motor drive that’s gone wrong rather than anything serious like cables etc.
My first step would be to find the sunroof crank and see if you can manually wind the roof closed?
I know on my old A4 the sunroof crank was clipped into the dashboard fuse box end cover, on the A3 I think it’s part of the tools in the boot??
I’m sure it says where it is in the glovebox manual.....

Edit: I’ve just Googled the A3 8P sunroof crank and it appears the same as the one in my old A4, so guess derekw must be correct; think I was getting confused with a BMW I once had...oops.

Silly question but once I’ve found the tool what do I do with it

There should be full instructions on the exact procedure in the glovebox manual, but it’s basically remove the cover where the switch is and engage the crank tool in the drive hole and manually wind the sunroof until it’s open or closed (depending on the circumstance of course) .
Of course, if something more serious has gone wrong , like the cables operating the mechanism are damaged then this manual fail-safe procedure won’t work.
It’s only really designed for failures associated with the electrical system of opening/closing the roof.....

It’s Headlining out time now, wrong time of year for this to happen, good luck.

The gear on the back of the motor was snapped!

Easy fix just drop the interior light 3 torx bolts and new motor in!

Make sure sunroof is in closed position and new motor is in closed position before installing the new one :)
