I bought my Avant partly - or perhaps mainly - for its load-lugging ability. I seem to be folding the rear seats and removing the luggage guard and rear luggage cover and then replacing them on a fairly regular basis. A few months ago I didn’t have time to put it all back together before we were off out somewhere and I drove around with the car in ‘van’ configuration. Other than folding the rear seats back up again, I’ve been driving around with it like that ever since and I’ve now got used to it.
The luggage guard and retractable cover are quite heavy items and can be tricky to replace, particularly the luggage guard and it seems to me that I’m saving a fair bit of weight. I can’t say that I’ve noticed an improvement in performance as the car flies along anyway. Security isn’t an issue either (not that I ever leave valuables in the boot) as I have privacy glass and without a torch, the contents of the rear seats and boot are not visible from outside.
Has anybody else gone minimalist like this?
