Detailing advice

Any recommendations for a decent wax/sealant for Monza silver? I've been googling and seem to get mixed answers as you do with most things to do with detailing. Ideally I'd like something that I can apply with the DA and would like a nice wet look to it.

From my reading this can be difficult with silver but the Monza silver is a bit darker than most silvers so think it may be achievable?

Liquid waxes 7 sealants are no good for applying by machine as the pad will soak up a lot of the product and will sling, so you'd be wasting product, you need to buy a paste wax and apply the wax to the pad via a plastic knife or something similar,it's very difficult as you've said to get a silver paint looking wet and with most wet look waxes they aren't very durable because of the high content of carnauba in them unless you buy a expensive carnauba based wax, ie UHD wax and the likes
Why not try in2detailing own ceramic paste wax, it was only £15-95 on Friday it's got Si02 and polymer/synthetic agents in it for beading and durability

Is there much of a benefit to applying with a DA? I've read it's quicker and you get a more even coverage but it's not essential that I use it and just thought it would be better to use whilst I have it there.

My pads and cleanser etc got delivered today, next on the shopping list is a pressure washer as I'm sick of rinsing with buckets! Spend half my time filling them up.

I would just do by hand personally bud Spending spree going on I see I can see how that would get annoying using the buckets

Its a nightmare mate especially with a glass back! If there is no real benefit to using the DA then I suppose I have a lot more options as half the stuff I seen recommend was for applying by hand only.

Collinite 476S had some good write-ups

Will have a look at the in2detailing stuff now Jassy cheers mate

If you got bad back maybe look at a spray sealant bud easy on easy off

That's what I'm using at the minute, meguiars quick wax but I assumed that they're must be a trade off having something so quick and easy compared to a paste or liquid or people wouldn't bother. Am I right or do I have it all wrong?!

Depends on the product the spray wax on its own won’t last that but if you get a sealant down it will last lot longer for example like reload or fast finish by megauirs i just ordered tax systems moonlight sealant it’s all down to personal preference

Didn't get a notification for these replies so only just seen them. Will weigh up the options and attempt to decide on something been reading good reports of fk1000p but I've got the megs quick wax to keep me going.

Pressure washer arrived today so just need to fit an outdoor tap and get a 40 odd meter hose.

FK 1000P is a high temperature sealant and can be used on your wheels and exhaust tips. I have read good reports but never got around to getting any.

Cheers I think I'll give it a go, reasonably priced for a large tub and has great reviews. The price of some of these waxes is insane!

Well it's been a hectic few months, new job and all sorts of other crap but I've booked Wednesday off to attack the car. It hasn't been touched since around October so it's pretty nasty. I'm going to hopefully break out the DA for the first time if the weather stays on my side and just want to check I have everything down right.

1. Wash wheels and tyres, blast out arches etc
2. Wash car using TJ's shampoo I've yet to try.
3. Clay whilst still wet, maybe go over with another quick wash?
4. Tape up , do you tape the gap around the bonnet etc?
5. Go to town with the DA and scholl S20
6. Wipe down with cleanser fluid
7. Wax

Does that sound about right?

Cheers

Don't go mad with tape use it as a marker ie like cross hairs on a scope.... just as indicators it can be a pain in the **** to remove if you use too much, l never use it

That was quick! No flies on you!

So should I just concentrate on the likes of trim, rubber seals, headlights and leave the rest?

Rubber trims yes, you won't damage the headlight clusters with S20 it's a diminishing compound so it will more than likely improve the look of them as it remove all the fine scratches they've gathered over the years

Well the deed is done, going to have a check of the swirls when it gets darker as it's quite difficult to see. I'm pretty sure they are still there but probably a lot less.

I am done in and my back is.broken! Enjoyed it though!

Some of the scratches appear to have almost disappeared but the deeper ones I may hit with the ultimate compound or menzerna heavy cut and follow up with the S20, does that sound ok?

One issue I have done and it's annoyed me a lot,Done the front bumper and hit a bit of water trapped between the grill which has sprayed my honeycomb grill with polish splatter. Of all the places! Is there any easy way to get this off?

I'm liking the fk1000p so far, finish looks great and from what I've read should hold up for a while.

So many little defects I've come across whilst polishing, now I know they are there I need to sort them, stone chips, deeper scratches, laquer runson the front and back bumper etc but overall good experience and I look forward to using my DA again.

TJ's shampoo was great too, not sure on the dilution so just guessed. It foamed up nicely without being over the top and smelled great. It done its job well.

Will get some pics up later.

Thanks for all of your advice.

And this is after the S20, I took the first picture from a different angle for some reason so it looks like it's rotated.

A bit disappointed but was also expecting this. I checked the car over last night and it's still swirl city.

I think my problem are caused by a few things, too much polish at times, not working it long enough and possibly clogged pads.

I think rather than attack the while thing again I'll concentrate on one panel each time I wash over the summer but I was struggling to tell when the polish was fully worked. Any tips on identifying this on a light coloured car with no access to a garage? I found it difficult in the day light so ended up guessing.

Also what would you recommend to sort this

IMG 20190523 120825 2736x2052

Difficult to get on a picture, I have some ultimate compound and menzerna heavy cut?

What pads are you using and at speed do you set your machine what brand is it, S20 is a good one step correctional compound if the cars paint is at acceptable level yours ain't mate, you'll need some heavy duty pads and cutting compound to sort the swirls out, as for the deep scratches, l can't comment on these as l can't tell wether it's clear coat or the paint that's been damaged

I used green hex logic pads at speed 5 of 6 on the das 6 pro. I've got ultimate compound and menzerna heavy cut 400 here too but not sure if they are too heavy. I'm assuming if I used any of these I'd need to use a finishing polish afterwards or would the S20 be ok? I did read on detailing world that 400 leaves a decent finish.

The scratches on the door don't catch my finger nail but I have no idea how to tell if it's gone down to the paint though. The scratch also goes through one of those clear protective stickers right next to the rear door, any tips on removing them without damaging anything?

Use the 400 on all the affected panels and yeah you could go over them again with the Scholl S20 if required

I'm hoping to tackle the car again soon after our recent trip to South Wales and covering over 800 miles she is looking rather manky. After my last sort of failed attempt at removing defects I'm going to have a go again but just do 1 - 2 panels rather than trying to do the whole thing in one day. My main issue was not working the abrasives enough. I find it difficult to tell when it's done as I'm doing it outside and on a light coloured car so I have a quick question.

Is it possible to over work a polish?

I know it can dry up so a light misting with water can help with that but if I'm struggling to tell when it's done if I work it for longer than I should need to then the abrasives should have fully broken down, that my idea anyway?

Really impressed with the fk1000p, still beading really well, will be interesting to see how easy the crap comes off when washing.
