Hi

I have had my 2009 A4 B8 for a couple of months and noticed recently that the drivers door was not unlocking first time. So I would have to lock/unlock until it actually works..
Its getting worse now and either have to climb in through the rear/passenger side to unlock from the inside?

I have 2 keys and the same is happening with both.
Its registered to open the drivers door only on 1 click / all doors on double click.
The inside lock/unlock button appears to be working fine.

Maybe some WD40 somewhere? Or coding / parts replacement?
Is it a common fault?

Thanks

Do you have Carista or similar to read error codes?

I had the same on the passenger door but eventually went away, now come back again with this error code and doesn't look like going away this time as it is constant:

I have Ilexa/VCDS so will scan it later.

After further research I have read a few 'tricks' that might help to fix.
1. Pulling on the inside and outside levers at the same time to realign cables?
2. Spray WD40 into the key hole.
3. Take the lock apart and re-grease.
4. Replace door control module.

Cool, will try those at the weekend, you never know!

I pulled the inside and outside door latches a few times together and it seems to have improved? Early days yet but ive had no issues last night and this morning so far..

Not going to work on mine, can hear and feel it locking, nothing when I unlock, either not getting the signal or just not having it!

i have the same issue too, in the summer it works fine but when the weather gets cold the drivers door only does not unlock so i have to lower the window to open the door. I will take your advice and scan to see if there any issues.

If I get time on Sat I will take the doorcard off & plug a multi meter into it to see if it is getting a signal, may need to take the drivers door off as well so I can ID which cable sends the unlock signal to the actuator.

Its a common fault on these. Easiest way to cure it is replace the door lock. Things get messy if you split the lock to re-grease. loads tiny fiddly bits that fall out. I've done 3 of the 4 on mine so far.

Yeah the pull handles at same time / Spray WD40 hasn't done the trick so bitten the bullet and bought a replacement door lock mech.
Looks to be relatively easy to replace.

Hey guys, the problem here comes from the lock mechanism. Inside there are 2 electric motors and the locks before 2010 suffer from that issue. I had the same issue on the front passenger and back left doors. This can actually be fixed without replacing the lock just by cleaning the motor. The mechanism of the lock must be dissembled, the motor must be also disassembled and all the electrical contacts must be cleaned. Once you assemble the motor it's good to connect it to 12v a/c charger and leave it running for around 60sec. Did that this summer and I don't have problems with the doors for the last 6 months. And most important it's free :)

Must admit when mine was playing up (now seems to be ok) I did look at how to fix it for free and found this video:

Seems to be the same you are talking about.

Yes this is exaclty what I'm talking about. Thanks for the video! I'll share it on our local bulgarian audi forum as it is a common problem and will help many people.
