Colour screen mod for cluster

In my 10 years of S3 ownership most of which time I have been on this forum I can honestly say this is probably the first time this forum has started to cost me money!! lol

All the stuff I have done on my car up until now has been my own doing... I hadn't planned on any of this other stuff :D

Part number 4B0920981J... was cheap enough to take a punt on.... will see how it goes

Does anyone have the details of how to build a flash rig for these for doing the cloning?...

its cost me a fortune if it wasn’t for this place I wouldn’t be doing a v6 turbo with rnse, mfsw, rear camera and colormfa(2nd time) but at least I now now how to change a brake switch
Seriously if it wasn’t for this place I would not no how to do any of that stuff

You love it ;).

For a bench flashy kit you wanna chop off as much as you can off of the blue and green plug. Cut off the obd wiring too

All you need to do is connect 12v and ign to +ve and ground. The the green connect to k line.

I then have a wire with spade ends that goes from the +ve and -ve that I hook alligator clips up to. This end plugs into the 240v and has a 12v/5A transformer

About time you colorMFA

Otherwise the “easy” way is just to plug the blue and green in from your car. The loom should pull out enough to connect.

Read and write via OBD

Oh yeah. And lock the pink things lock mech. down

The amount of times I’ve had to read “my immo is active” “car doesn’t read” etc is unbelievable.

What do you use to read and write through the obd?

I’ve heard of vag eeprom and vag tacho

It would be interesting to know if there is enough space on the C5 eprom for needle sweep on start up

Maybe. I might have a c5 eeprom to have a look through. Otherwise send yours and I can look at it???

With a vcds or FT232RL obd2 blue cable

Whats the part number on this one? just for the sake of helping others find the right units... and assuming it does whats needed too lol..

<tuffty/>

Will post it up when it arrives, they only list the Siemens part number on the listing so I don't actually know yet......

I need to find someone to clone mine tried doing it myself before and got nowhere going get the mfsw and camera all working 1st before I do the swap so I know everything working so it’s easier to rule out any problems

Daft question but when coding the new cluster would you use the coding for a A6 C5 or the coding for an S3 8L?! Or would they be one and the same?

I just followed the instructions on the pop up window on vcds to change the a6 coding.

My advice would be to chop the ends off the board and then plug it in to your car and make sure it powers up and then play around with the coding, you can start the car but it will of course cut out because of immobiliser not being matched.

Does anybody on here know how to extract the pin/skc code from the 8l and C5 clusters and are they willing to share with the rest of us how to do it? I have a vcds cable and I’ll buy whatever extra software or cable i need to be able to do this, I also need to wind my C5 clusters mileage forward about 20k miles to match what my s3 should have on the clock

I've been talking to Ian about extracting the PIN from my existing cluster so I can get my shiny new set of keys working. He's told me to use VAG EEPROM Programmer with a VCDS cable so I've downloaded the software and I'm going to have a stab at it this weekend......I'll let you know how I get on.

I've tried VAG Commander and VAG Tacho so far with no joy but I'm not the most technical person in the world!!

Looking forward to hearing how that goes.

Is it possible to have 2 different sets of clocks matched or paired to the immobiser so that the car will run with either set plugged in and no need to reprogram anything when you switch between them?

As far as I’m aware yes, but with 2 identical clusters. Don’t know how you’d stand with swapping over between the 8L and C5 clocks, I think they’d always need to be coded when you swapped but someone might correct me.

I'll make a DIY for you guys

it's simple really :)

Off to work now but will have a look after

yes it's possible

re: C5 clocks - they have a different wiring schematic for colourMFA (i've not done one myself but i think you should double check it)

After i made it i already thought that i forgot to mention
- you can do this in the car
- make sure you have a good battery level
- don't EVER disconnect mid read/write

(To @Administrators : is it possible to reserve the following post for any more questions that arise?)

Please note that ASN cannot permit linking to software that is potentially pirated or cracked...

If the software is legitimately free to distribute then that ok but if its hacked commercial software then links will be removed...

Nothing to stop anyone discussing how its used of course but obvs ASN will not be associated with promoting software piracy

All good dude... nothing to stop people for VAG EEPROM Programmer on google and dealing with whatever comes up themselves of course and all we are really talking about here is DIY coding for doing a cluster swap in our own cars :)

Good video btw

@IanPG Thanks Ian, great video. It's made everything a lot clearer in my head which isn't an easy task!! :tonguewink:

And if you don’t mind - when you pull your C5 file - are you able to send it to my
Email please??

No problem mate, PM me your email address and as soon as I've 'modified' the clocks to fit my in my car I'll send it over.

@IanPG ... not seen the whole video as yet but how do you get over immo key coding for the RFID's? is that covered in the vid?
