I use it, but only for the nice tweeks you can do with the apps. They really are easy to do to. OBDeleven uses a credit system for the apps. Most take 10 credits, but something like VIM uses 100. You can build credits or buy them. You can get 6 free a day by watching adverts. On my A7 there are about 20 apps (needle sweep, start/stop swap, lap timer, boot remote close etc., etc.). Of course it can do all the other coding stuff and the OBDeleven forum is useful for this as its well used and model specific.
My advice. Download the app (android only) and enter your VIN to choose your car and see what apps you'll have to use. Start building daily credits, which you can do immediately. This is all before you actually buy the dongle, so when you get it you'll have credits to make app changes straight away.
There is no way I'd pay the price of VCDS. My last 4 cars have all been Audis and my wife owns an Audi, but I still wouldn't buy it. I managed to pick up a used OBDeleven dongle for £15 and a free pro code off a forum user. I was lucky, but the new dongle is only about £70 and a bit more again for the pro (which you don't even need if not making coding changes).
