I own a 2015 RS4 B8.. I bought this car in October 2016 and up until now the car has been fine. Two weeks ago the car suddenly stopped whilst driving, and when I tried to restart it sounded really rough. Long story short, the car has been with Audi Belfast since then. Initially they told me I needed new cam shaft sensors, but when replaced the problem persisted. They then told me that it may be an issue with the fuel system or timing belt. However, yesterday they contacted me to say that they advise that the car get a replacement engine! This car is only 3 years old with 40000 miles, and has never been mistreated. They have told me that the new engine is the best option, because the alternative is to strip the existing engine to find the problem, which may take 20hrs labour (£150 per hour) which equates to £3000. Even if they do that, I am being told that they might not find the problem. They now believe that it is an issue with pistons/cylinders. The car was out of warranty in January this year, and I have an extended warranty with Motoreasy. Motoreasy are insisting that the engine be stripped, but are not guaranteeing that they will cover the fault! Plus Motoreasy only cover a maximum of £60 per hour for labour. Either way I am facing a massive bill to get the car fixed. My issue is that I cannot understand how or why this would have happened to a car of this age with this mileage. I also believe that even though the car is out of warranty Audi should cover this due to the age and mileage of the car, as in my opinion, the car had a major underlying fault. I apologise that this is longwinded, but has anyone else ever encountered such an issue with an RS4, and if so has Audi covered it in these circumstances. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi bud.
Man I feel for ya. That's crazy. Not just need a full carbon clean? The parts/components mentioned should not be failing at 40k mikes. Flipping eck. I'd get in touch with Audi UK. I don't see any other entity being charitable enough to fix/replace out of warranty. Really shouldn't be happening.
Stuff like this worries me. Good luck man. I've not heard of this issue before on the B8. Heard of misfires etc.

I would not expect this to occur at such a low milage and I would for one be fighting it. Be polite but insistent. If all else fails, a little adverse publicity.
Agree with you here, you do get somewhere with them if you push them they don’t like giving you something for nothing but you have to push them then when they crack(give in a little) you push them more until your happy with the outcome

MoyneFan1 - I'd be very suspicious - from what you have described that sounds like 'diagnosis by substitution', i.e. keep replacing parts until they hit the right one - and you are paying.
The 'it needs a new engine' is likely BS and intended to get you our of their hair. For starters if it was pistons/cylinders that would suggest that a piston had failed - if that's suspected then they do a compression test on each of the cylinders, take a reading and see if any are low. Have they done that?
Unless my memory serves me incorrectly the B8 V8 TFSI engine drives it's camshafts with chains - there is no timing belt so that's probably BS too. The reality will be that the dealer doesn't want a non-standard job and would prefer to be doing predictable service work.
Engines that stop and the then sound rough (but not rattling/clanky i.e. something has got badly broken) have typically got a fuel or ignition system issues (both of which are complex in modern vehicles) and require competent diagnosis.
You need a better option - are there any independent Audi specialists in NI?

I would deffo be contacting Audi Uk and complain bitterly and suggest they help with sorting the car , It should not be breaking down this early with low miles , If you have a full Audi service history this would help.

If the car has FASH and only just out of warranty (?) push them to deal with it at no cost to you. A problem like this with 40k miles and just a few years old is totally nuts.
If that doesn't work then surely a rebuild at an independent is more cost effective. A new engine must be £15k plus?
