Just picked up my new car a 3.2 a3 2005 an it's got a parking sensor fault. When put into reverse it beeps once do a few seconds which indicates a fault but there's no option of the parking sensors on the on-board computer.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers

Hi @jordan denton - sorry I’m not sure I follow your post.

On my S3, when I select reverse I get a single beep (letting me know I’ve selected reverse) and then it beeps, increasing in frequency until it’s a solid beep. I don’t have any visual aid.

I’m not sure what you mean by onboard computer - do you mean you’ve scanned the ECU for a fault code?

I get a single beep that lasts several seconds. According to the manual this indicates a fault but you can adjust the settings of the sensors on the set menu but the option of parking aid doesn't come up. Hope that makes it clearer it's the menu settings. In the set section it should be underneath the units option but it's not displayed

Hmm, possibly aftermarket sensors and not connected via factor coding.

My next plan is to look to to see if its an Audi control unit for them in the boot and go from there. Just didn't know if It doesn't display it as it's faulty or if something's not been connected somewhere

I have a 2009 S3 model so 8p and my reverse single beeps once when put it in reverse then just beeps quicker and louder the closer i get to object but i don't get it in any display .
Now are you talking about when you enter Vcd's you dont have the option

The longer beep indicates there is one or more faulty sensor(s). I've had it for the longest time, and replacing them with an aftermarket one works for a while, but you'd best go for genuine sensors (which are expensive). I bought like 3 of them 2nd hand on ebay. Put the car in reverse (key in ignition, engine not running) and go to your parking sensors, when you put your ear next to them you will hear a buzzing. If one or more don't buzz that means that either the sensor is faulty, OR the connector isn't seated properly / has a bad connection.

Edit: even when one or more is faulty, the parking aid settings should still be in the menu.

Yea I thought it should still be displayed in the menu a d the fact it isn't makes me wander if the control unit has packed up. I'm gunna see if anyone local to me has a VAG computer to plug in and diagnose the fault.

Hi Guys, parking sensor on my A4 b7 has just started doing this. it's in the local garage as we type... £101.48 ex. VAT for a single sensor + whatever an hours labour costs today. *SIGH*. It was doing the long beep then not a lot afterwards (unless, strangely, my Missus walked near it).

Damn, they are really easy to install, even without removing the bumper... :\ I bought 3 sensors for €50 on ebay.

For those interested in a cheapo DIY option, I installed some Dolphin flush-fit sensors (£40-50 on Amazon/Ebay) around 6 months ago, and have been extremely happy with them.
Obviously it doesn't interact with the car's computer, or whatever, but they look totally OEM.
