just wanted to report that I’ve had the carplay standalone unit fitted having bought it from AliExpress and am seriously impressed with it for the money.

I’ve known of several people having issues which are either compatibility or faulty units but mine seems to work exactly as expected.

Bargain for the £200 or so it cost.

Pretty sure the carplay add on I have does android auto too.

Do you have how we’d be able to find it one there? Keywords, product name etc..

just search Audi A4 carplay. Make sure you get the correct one for mmi or non mmi.

A4/A5 share the same entertainment systems (as well as a large number of other bits and pieces), so yes, one will work on the other assuming you are talking about same generation.

So... I assume you control via the steering wheel buttons and voice control. Correct? If voice control, how do you activate that and not the MMI audio control? I can't find a yootoob video of it...

It effectively becomes an extra source. You engage it by holding down the nav button.

When the carplay module is selected you scroll through its buttons using the mmi controls. You can select the mic icon and use that to speak when inside any particular app or you can press the mic button on the steering wheel and then talk via the Audi mic.

If you hold down the nav button again for three seconds or select the car icon it reverts back to the normal Audi MMI gui and the mic then works in the native way.

Hi, did you fit this yourself? Was it fairly straightforward? (and I assume the seller is US based, having just Googled it?)

Seller is China based.

You are probably looking at RSNav which is a US reseller.

Very straight forward to fit. Remove two components then plug and play.

Sorry if this is an old thread but I have just purchased an Audi A4 (2013 Saloon) with MMI 3G+ and Nav (HN+ I think is the identifier) and have been looking at this unit from AliExpress. It looks good value and reasonably easy to fit. It will be great to have Google Maps or Waze available and to have all the other features. I have a load of questions before I splash out though and wondered if you can help...

The unit is called "Carlinkit Video Interface With Carplay Screen Mirroring Functions for A4 A5 B8 Q5 With Audi Concert Symphony Model"

  • Does it effect the ability to see speed etc in the dashboard display (between speedo and rev). I like seeing the speed I'm travelling displayed here.
  • When in CarPlay mode - is the rest of the MMI effectively disabled e.g. the phone connection etc?
  • Are the controls on the steering wheel or centre console all well linked up with the CarPlay app?
  • Where does your phone connect and therefore sit? Could you choose?
  • Does the phone charge when plugged in?
  • Is the phone and music sound quality good?
  • Can you use Siri for messaging?

I am reasonably happy with the bluetooth solution for calls and music at the moment but would like a more up to date sat nav. Deciding to invest in this - or a map/firmware upgrade so all experience is welcome.
